| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the attacker to be on the same adjacent network segment as the target student workstation - for example, connected to the same classroom LAN or Wi-Fi SSID. No authentication, credentials, or elevated privileges are required. The attacker must be able to passively capture network traffic (e.g., via ARP spoofing or a promiscuous-mode NIC on a shared medium). Exploitation is limited to integrity spoofing of presence/attendance status; it does not grant system access, credential exposure, or code execution. The attack does not work over the internet or from remote network segments, significantly narrowing the threat model to insider or co-located adversaries. |
| Impact | The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N) correctly scopes this as an adjacent-network, low-complexity integrity issue with no confidentiality or availability impact. Real-world risk is constrained by the AV:A requirement: an attacker must be on the same local network segment as the victim student, limiting exploitation to campus or lab environments where an adversarial party is physically or logically co-located. The impact is restricted to integrity manipulation - specifically, deceiving the teacher/management console about a student's connection status - and does not enable remote code execution, credential theft, or service disruption. The 'Information Disclosure' tag in the input metadata conflicts with the CVSS VC:N metric and the replay-spoofing mechanism; there is no evidence of confidentiality impact. No KEV listing and no EPSS score are available, consistent with a low-urgency, niche-product finding. This is a real but low-severity issue appropriate for prioritization behind network-layer mitigations rather than emergency patching. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker - such as a student or outside party connected to the same lab network segment - uses a packet capture tool to record the connection-keepalive packet their own or another student's workstation sends to the WeenyGenius server. After the student logs off or leaves, the attacker replays the captured packet periodically, causing the teacher's management console to continue reporting the student as present and connected. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 11, 2026
Replay attack vulnerability in WeenyGenius, a computer lab management system by Howyar Technologies, allows unauthenticated adjacent-network attackers to forge student attendance status. By intercepting a legitimate student connection packet and replaying it, an attacker can make the management system believe the student remains connected after they have disconnected. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and EPSS data is not available for this entry.
RemediationAI
No vendor-released patch with an exact fix version has been identified at time of analysis. The TWCERT advisory at https://www.twcert.org.tw/en/cp-139-11200-ffc3c-2.html and https://www.twcert.org.tw/tw/cp-132-11201-658c0-1.html should be monitored for patch release. As compensating controls, administrators should segment computer lab networks using VLANs or managed switches configured with port isolation so that student workstations cannot sniff each other's traffic, which eliminates the interception prerequisite. Enabling 802.1X port authentication on lab switches would also prevent unauthorized devices from joining the lab segment. These controls do not fix the underlying protocol flaw but effectively neutralize the adjacent-network capture requirement. Network monitoring for duplicate packet streams (replay indicators) could serve as a detective control in the interim.

Technical ContextAI · show details
WeenyGenius (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:howyar:weenygenius:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) is a classroom/computer lab management platform developed by Howyar Technologies, commonly deployed in educational institutions to monitor student workstation connectivity and attendance. The root cause is CWE-353 (Missing Support for Integrity Check): connection packets sent by student workstations lack cryptographic message authentication or sequence numbers, so the server cannot distinguish a fresh, legitimate packet from a captured replay. This is a classic network protocol integrity failure where the absence of nonce-based or HMAC-protected frames allows packet replay without credential theft.

DescriptionCVE.org
WeenyGenius, a computer lab management system by Howyar Technologies, has a Missing Support for Integrity Check vulnerability. Unauthenticated attackers on the same network can intercept a student's connection packet and replay it, thereby forging the appearance that the student remains connected.
