3DescriptionCVE.org
n8n is an open source workflow automation platform. Prior to 2.37.7 and 2.38.2, the /chat WebSocket route accepted a resumeToken and resumed a paused execution without checking that the target node supported chat messages. An anonymous form submitter who received that token could reuse it on the chat route to release a Send-and-Wait, non-chat HITL, or Wait approval gate. The affected authorization logic is packages/cli/src/chat/chat-execution-manager.ts, where canResumeOverChat did not gate the resume target. This issue is fixed in versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2.
AnalysisAI
The /chat WebSocket endpoint in n8n workflow automation platform fails to validate that a supplied resumeToken targets a chat-compatible node, allowing any holder of a valid token - including anonymous form submitters - to bypass Send-and-Wait, non-chat Human-in-the-Loop (HITL), and Wait approval gates in paused workflow executions. Affected versions are n8n below 2.37.7 and n8n 2.38.0-2.38.1, with vendor-confirmed fixes released 2026-09-02. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the attacker to hold a valid resumeToken previously distributed to them as part of an n8n workflow form-submission interaction. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.3 with AT:P (Attack Requirements: Present) reflects that exploitation is gated on the attacker possessing a valid resumeToken obtained through prior workflow interaction. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to n8n 2.37.7 (for 2.37.x deployments) or n8n 2.38.2 (for 2.38.x deployments); both patched releases are tagged at github.com/n8n-io/n8n/releases/tag/n8n@2.37.7 and github.com/n8n-io/n8n/releases/tag/n8n@2.38.2 respectively. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
