DescriptionCVE.org
HTTPX2 is a next generation HTTP client for Python. Prior to 2.12.0, the HTTPX2 content decoders in src/httpx2/httpx2/_decoders.py fully inflate each gzip, deflate, br, or zstd network chunk before iter_bytes() or aiter_bytes() yields bounded pieces to the application. A 64 KiB compressed chunk can expand to approximately 64 MiB in one intermediate allocation, so an attacker-controlled or compromised server can cause severe memory pressure or out-of-memory process termination even when the application streams the response. This issue is fixed in version 2.12.0.

AnalysisAI
Memory exhaustion via unbounded decompression in HTTPX2 (all versions before 2.12.0) allows any HTTP server the client contacts to cause severe memory pressure or out-of-memory process termination by returning a crafted compressed response body. The content decoders in _decoders.py call decompress() without a size cap, so a single 64 KiB compressed chunk can inflate to approximately 64 MiB in one allocation across gzip, deflate, brotli, and zstd encodings - all enabled by default. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires the HTTPX2 client to make an HTTP request to an attacker-controlled or compromised server that returns a response body encoded with gzip, deflate, brotli, or zstd (any encoding HTTPX2 decodes by default). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 7.5 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) accurately reflects a trivially-reachable, unauthenticated availability attack with no confidentiality or integrity impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade HTTPX2 to version 2.12.0 or later, as confirmed by the tagged release at https://github.com/pydantic/httpx2/releases/tag/v2.12.0 and security advisory GHSA-8xx6-hgc6-gc2m. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
