File-open trigger requires local delivery and active user action (UI:R, AV:L); no privileges needed; crash dominates impact with only marginal heap memory leakage (C:L, A:H, I:N).

2DescriptionCVE.org
A flaw was found in the file-psd plugin in GIMP. When processing a specially crafted PSD image file, the plugin does not properly validate the channel-count parameter. This incorrect validation leads to improper memory bounds checking, resulting in both a heap out-of-bounds read and a stack out-of-bounds access. This issue can result in an application crash, leading to a denial of service or a limited information disclosure of memory contents.
AnalysisAI
Heap out-of-bounds read and stack out-of-bounds access in GIMP's file-psd plugin allow an attacker to crash the application or disclose limited memory contents by convincing a user to open a specially crafted PSD image. The flaw affects GIMP as shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 through 9 and stems from missing validation of the channel-count parameter during PSD parsing. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that a user open a specially crafted PSD file in GIMP - this is the sole trigger condition. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 base score of 6.1 with vector AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H accurately reflects a moderate-risk, locally-triggered issue. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patched version has been independently confirmed at time of analysis; patch status should be tracked via Red Hat Bugzilla bug 2525644 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2525644) and the Red Hat CVE page (https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-82343). … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
