file_picker (aka flutter_file_picker) for Flutter, all versions through 10.3.10, is vulnerable to path traversal (CWE-22) in its Android implementation. The openFileStream() method in FileUtils.kt uses the DISPLAY_NAME obtained from ContentResolver.query() directly in file path construction without sanitization. A malicious Android app with a crafted ContentProvider can return a filename containing ../ sequences, causing the plugin to create arbitrary files and directories outside the intended cache directory within the victim app's internal storage. Existing files are not overwritten due to an existence check.
AnalysisAI
Path traversal in flutter_file_picker's Android implementation (all versions through 10.3.10) allows a malicious Android app on the same device to write arbitrary files into the victim app's internal storage directories. The openFileStream() method in FileUtils.kt constructs file paths using the DISPLAY_NAME value returned by ContentResolver.query() without sanitization, making it trivially exploitable by a crafted ContentProvider that returns filenames containing ../ sequences. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires two concurrent conditions: (1) the victim device must have a separate malicious Android app installed that registers a ContentProvider returning a crafted DISPLAY_NAME containing ../ path traversal sequences, and (2) the victim app must actively invoke flutter_file_picker's openFileStream() while the user selects content from that malicious provider. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.3 (Low) score reflects the genuine constraints of this attack: AV:L requires the attacker to have a malicious app installed on the same physical device; PR:L acknowledges the attacker app must operate within Android's app sandbox; and the impact is limited to low integrity (I:L) with no confidentiality or availability impact, consistent with the existence-check guard against overwrites. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | No vendor-released patch has been identified at time of analysis; the available references include the upstream GitHub repository and issue tracker (https://github.com/miguelpruivo/flutter_file_picker/issues/1967) but no tagged release with a fix. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
