In versions below 2.5.3 of the Azure AD Graph app for Splunk SOAR, a user who holds a role with permission to run actions could expose a sensitive password by invoking the reset password action, because the action's temp_password parameter is not masked and is shown in cleartext in the user interface. The information disclosure is possible because the app does not mark the affected action parameter as a password. For more information see Run an action in Splunk SOAR (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-soar/soar-on-premises/use-splunk-soar-on-premises/8.6.0/use-the-command-line-interface-to-perform-tasks-in-splunk-soar-on-premises/run-an-action-in-splunk-soar-on-premises).
AnalysisAI
Cleartext exposure of temporary passwords in the Azure AD Graph app for Splunk SOAR (versions below 2.5.3) allows authenticated action-runners to read Azure AD reset credentials directly from the SOAR interface. The app's reset password action fails to classify the temp_password parameter as a sensitive field, so Splunk SOAR renders it unmasked in the UI rather than applying its standard password-masking behavior. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an authenticated Splunk SOAR account assigned a role that includes permission to run actions - specifically the reset password action of the Azure AD Graph app. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 score of 4.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) accurately reflects the constrained impact: exploitation is bounded to authenticated SOAR users who already hold action-run permissions, limiting the realistic attacker pool to insiders or compromised SOAR accounts. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker with a low-privilege Splunk SOAR account - or an insider with legitimate action-run permissions - navigates to the Azure AD Graph app and triggers the reset password action against a target Azure AD user account. The resulting temp_password appears unmasked in the SOAR action output panel, allowing the attacker to immediately read and use the temporary credential to authenticate to Azure AD as the targeted user, potentially accessing email, cloud resources, or further pivoting within the Microsoft 365 environment. |
| Remediation | Upgrade the Azure AD Graph app for Splunk SOAR to version 2.5.3 or later, which correctly marks the temp_password parameter as a password type so the platform masks it in the UI and logs. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
