DescriptionNVD

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who holds the "power" Splunk role could store risky Search Processing Language (SPL) commands in a Table Editor dataset and share the dataset. A user who holds the "admin" Splunk role triggers the commands when that user opens the dataset in the Table Editor. The commands run using the permissions of the second user and could expose all relevant data and modify lookup files. The vulnerability is possible because the Table Editor does not apply SPL safeguards for risky commands to the field-summary search that it runs for the Initial Data step. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the affected user by tricking them into initiating a request within their browser. The user who holds the "power" Splunk role should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see SPL safeguards for risky commands (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.2/best-practices-for-splunk-platform-security/spl-safeguards-for-risky-commands) and Define roles on the Splunk platform with capabilities (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/administer/manage-users-and-security/10.2/manage-splunk-platform-users-and-roles/define-roles-on-the-splunk-platform-with-capabilities) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

Splunk Enterprise contains a stored SPL injection flaw in the Table Editor that allows a lower-privileged 'power' role user to plant risky Search Processing Language commands inside a shared dataset, which then execute silently under an 'admin' user's elevated permissions when that admin opens the dataset's Initial Data step. Affected versions span four release lines: below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attacker must hold an authenticated Splunk 'power' role account on the target Splunk Enterprise instance - this role is typically granted to power analysts and is not a default low-privilege account. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor-assigned CVSS score of 5.4 (Medium) accurately captures the constrained exploitation path: AC:H reflects mandatory social engineering of an admin user, PR:L confirms the attacker must already hold an authenticated 'power' role account, and UI:R means exploitation cannot proceed without the victim taking a deliberate action. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario A threat actor who already holds a Splunk 'power' role account - whether through legitimate employment, credential theft, or insider access - crafts a Table Editor dataset containing risky SPL commands designed to output sensitive search results to an attacker-controlled lookup file, then shares the dataset through Splunk's collaboration features. The attacker sends a phishing message to a Splunk admin (e.g., a Slack message or email) claiming the dataset contains urgent security findings that need review. …
Remediation Upgrade Splunk Enterprise to version 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 as appropriate for the deployed release line, per vendor advisory SVD-2026-0801 at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
