  • 4 maven packages depend on com.rabbitmq:amqp-client (3 direct, 1 indirect)

Ecosystem-wide dependent count for version 5.33.0.

DescriptionCVE.org

The RabbitMQ Java client library allows Java and JVM-based applications to connect to and interact with RabbitMQ nodes. Prior to 5.33.0, com.rabbitmq.tools.jsonrpc.ProcedureDescription receives a javaReturnType value in an untrusted system.describe response and passes it through JSONUtil.tryFill, setJavaReturnType, and computeReturnTypeAsJavaClass to Class.forName(javaReturnType) with initialization enabled. An attacker able to answer the JsonRpcClient request through a shared broker or network interception can select a class already present in the victim JVM and trigger its static initializer, while JsonRpcClient.java later passes getReturnType output to mapper.parse and may also create type confusion. Successful exploitation can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability in the client process. This issue is fixed in version 5.33.0.

AnalysisAI

Unvalidated Class.forName() with initialization enabled in RabbitMQ Java Client's JSON-RPC tooling allows a network-positioned attacker to trigger arbitrary static initializers in the victim JVM. Applications using com.rabbitmq:amqp-client before 5.33.0 that employ the JsonRpcClient class are exposed when an attacker can control or spoof the system.describe broker response - either as a co-tenant on a shared broker or via network interception. …

Attack ChainAIDerived

Hypothetical attack flow derived from CVE metadata

Access
Gain co-tenant access or MITM position on broker
Delivery
Intercept victim's system.describe request
Exploit
Respond with crafted javaReturnType naming classpath gadget
Execution
Victim JVM executes Class.forName() with attacker input
Persist
Static initializer of targeted class runs in victim process
Impact
type confusion via mapper.parse enables secondary data manipulation

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to control or intercept the system.describe response returned to a JsonRpcClient during its initialization phase. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:P/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:L/SI:L/SA:L) reflects serious CIA impact on the client process moderated by specific attack requirements (AT:P) and the need for low-privilege broker access (PR:L). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with co-tenant access on a shared RabbitMQ broker deploys a malicious JSON-RPC service on the same exchange targeted by the victim application. When the victim's JsonRpcClient initializes and issues its system.describe call, the attacker's service responds with a crafted javaReturnType value naming a class already on the victim JVM's classpath that contains a dangerous static initializer - for example, a class that opens an outbound connection, executes a subprocess, or leaks credentials upon load. …
Remediation Upgrade to com.rabbitmq:amqp-client version 5.33.0, which is the vendor-released patch. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Java applications using com.rabbitmq:amqp-client (particularly before version 5.33.0) and identify which employ JsonRpcClient by scanning application code and dependency manifests. …
