AMD SoundWire hardware dependency raises AC:H; local audio subsystem access implies PR:L; OOB read yields C:H but no write primitive, only minor availability risk.

DescriptionCVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

ASoC: amd: acp-sdw-sof: Bound DAI link iteration

create_sdw_dailinks() walks sof_dais until it finds an entry with initialised cleared, but sof_dais is allocated with exactly num_ends entries. If all entries are initialised, the loop reads past the end of the array.

Pass the allocated entry count to create_sdw_dailinks() and stop before reading past the array.

AnalysisAI

Out-of-bounds array read in the Linux kernel's AMD ACP SoundWire SOF audio driver exposes kernel memory to local attackers on systems equipped with AMD SoundWire hardware. The flaw in create_sdw_dailinks() allows iteration past the end of the allocated sof_dais array when all entries are initialized, lacking any bounds guard on the loop termination condition. …

Attack ChainAIDerived

Hypothetical attack flow derived from CVE metadata

Access
Obtain local access to AMD SoundWire-equipped system
Delivery
Trigger or await load of acp-sdw-sof kernel module
Exploit
Reach create_sdw_dailinks() with all sof_dais entries initialized
Execution
Loop iterates past allocated array boundary
Persist
Read adjacent kernel heap memory
Impact
Disclose sensitive kernel data to local user

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires local access to a system running a vulnerable Linux kernel version with AMD ACP SoundWire hardware present and the acp-sdw-sof driver loaded. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The provided CVSS 3.1 score of 8.4 with C:H/I:H/A:H is likely overstated relative to the described mechanism: the vulnerability is an out-of-bounds read, and the 'Information Disclosure' tag confirms the primary impact is kernel memory exposure rather than a demonstrated write primitive. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario A local user on a system running a vulnerable kernel with AMD SoundWire hardware present triggers the acp-sdw-sof driver in a configuration where all sof_dais entries are initialized before create_sdw_dailinks() is called. The loop overruns the array boundary and reads adjacent kernel heap memory, potentially exposing kernel pointers, credentials, or cryptographic material present in that memory region. …
Remediation The primary fix is to upgrade to a patched Linux kernel: 6.12.97 or later for the 6.12 stable series, 6.18.40 or later for 6.18, and 7.1.5 or later for 7.1; 7.2-rc1 already includes the fix. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Linux systems with AMD SoundWire audio hardware and document their current kernel versions. …
