| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated session with high privileges on ADM (CVSS PR:H) and access to the VPN Client certificate upload feature, which must be reachable to the attacker; the attacker abuses the certificate NAME field specifically to inject path-traversal sequences into the upload destination path. Success is further bounded by the ADM process privileges and filesystem permissions explicitly noted in the description - the write only lands where those permissions allow, so it is not an unconstrained root-level overwrite. Limiting factors: no anonymous/low-privilege path (PR:H), functionality only exposed if the VPN Client feature is present/used, and impact is integrity/availability rather than data disclosure (VC:N). |
| Impact | The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:H/VA:H) scores 7.0 (High) and describes a network-reachable, low-complexity attack that nonetheless requires high privileges (PR:H) and yields integrity and availability impact with no confidentiality loss - consistent with an authenticated file-write primitive. The PR:H requirement is the dominant limiting factor: the attacker must already hold an administrative/high-privilege ADM account, which sharply narrows the realistic threat to insiders, credential-theft scenarios, or chaining from a separate authentication bypass. No EPSS score, KEV listing, POC, or SSVC data was provided, so exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the inputs; the absence of a KEV entry and any public exploit suggests this is not currently mass-exploited. Net: a genuine but not top-tier priority - meaningful for hardened/multi-user NAS deployments, lower urgency where admin access is tightly controlled. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who has obtained high-privilege ADM credentials (e.g., a rogue administrator or via stolen/reused admin login) navigates to the VPN Client certificate upload function and submits a certificate whose name embeds traversal sequences. The crafted name causes the uploaded file to be written outside the VPN certificate directory - for example overwriting a configuration or script location - enabling tampering or disruption within the limits of the ADM process privileges and filesystem permissions. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Jul 30, 2026
Arbitrary file write in the VPN Client component of ASUSTOR ADM (the ADM NAS operating system) lets an authenticated, high-privileged attacker place uploaded certificate files outside the intended VPN certificate directory. The flaw stems from insufficient validation of the user-supplied certificate name when building the upload destination path, enabling directory traversal (CWE-22). No public exploit identified at time of analysis; the issue is not listed in CISA KEV and no POC is referenced.
RemediationAI
Upgrade ADM to a release beyond the affected bands as directed by the vendor; the ASUSTOR advisory at https://www.asustor.com/security/security_advisory_detail?id=68 is the authoritative source for the exact fixed build for each model (a specific fix version was not included in the provided data, so verify it there before deploying - do not assume a version). Patch available per vendor advisory. Until patched, reduce exposure by restricting who holds high-privilege ADM accounts (the PR:H prerequisite), disabling or not configuring the VPN Client feature if it is unused, and limiting network reachability of the ADM administration interface to trusted management networks or VPN - noting the trade-off that disabling VPN Client removes that functionality and restricting the admin interface may complicate remote management.

Technical ContextAI · show details
ADM (ASUSTOR Data Master) is the Linux-based operating system running on ASUSTOR network-attached storage appliances, and the affected surface is its built-in VPN Client feature, which accepts user-uploaded certificate files. The root cause is CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory): the certificate name supplied by the operator is concatenated into the filesystem upload path without adequately neutralizing traversal sequences such as '../', so the resulting path can resolve outside the intended VPN certificate store. The single CPE provided (cpe:2.3:a:asustor_inc.:adm:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) confirms the affected software is the ADM platform itself rather than a specific third-party library.

DescriptionCVE.org
A path traversal vulnerability was found in the VPN Clients on the ADM. The vulnerability occurs because user-controlled certificate name input is not sufficiently validated before being used to construct the upload destination path. An authenticated attacker can exploit this issue to write an uploaded certificate file outside the intended VPN certificate directory, subject to process privileges and filesystem permissions. Affected products and versions include: from ADM 4.1.0 through ADM 4.3.3.RUN1 as well as from ADM 5.0.0 through ADM 5.1.3.RI81.
Executive ViewAI
CVE-2026-67245 affects ASUSTOR ADM NAS systems, allowing authenticated administrators to perform arbitrary file writes outside intended certificate directories via directory traversal. Organizations operating ASUSTOR ADM face risk of administrative privilege abuse and potential system compromise through malicious certificate uploads by trusted users.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: restrict VPN certificate management access via privileged access management (PAM) controls, disable VPN client component if unused, implement file integrity monitoring on system-critical directories, enable audit logging for all VPN operations, and enforce administrative access through jump-host architecture to detect and contain unauthorized file operations.
