| Exploitation Conditions | The attacker must be able to reach the GL-MT3000's oui-httpd web/RPC service on TCP (typically port 80/443 on the LAN, or the WAN side only if the user has explicitly enabled remote admin - not default). The vulnerable nas-web.eject_disk RPC method must be present in the /rpc allowed-methods whitelist, which it is on firmware 4.4.5 and earlier but not from 4.7 onward. No authentication, no user interaction, and no special account privileges are required (CVSS PR:N/UI:N), and the dev_name parameter is directly attacker-controlled. Limiting factors: the device must be running an affected firmware (4.4.5 confirmed; 4.7+ patched), and the attacker needs network reachability to the management interface - devices behind ISP NAT with no port forwarding and no malicious client on the LAN are not exposed. |
| Impact | The CVSS 3.1 vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:L yields 7.3 (High): network-reachable, low complexity, no privileges, no user interaction, with limited CIA impact - limited likely reflecting that oui-httpd typically runs as a constrained service rather than full root, though on consumer routers this still often equates to device takeover. Exploit Code Maturity (E:X) is unproven per the vector, but a public PoC repository (StrTzz123/iot_vul) is referenced, so publicly available exploit code exists. The CVE is not listed in CISA KEV and no EPSS score was provided in the input, so probabilistic exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified here. RC:C (Confirmed) and the vendor's own confirmation statement raise confidence the bug is real. Real-world risk is elevated for any GL-MT3000 with its web/RPC interface exposed to untrusted networks (LAN guest segments, WAN if remote admin enabled, or tethered/captive networks the router connects to), and lower for devices isolated to trusted LAN-only access. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker on the same Wi-Fi network as a GL-MT3000 (or reaching it across the WAN if the admin interface is exposed) sends an unauthenticated HTTP POST to the /rpc endpoint invoking nas-web.eject_disk with a crafted dev_name containing shell metacharacters such as |

Command injection in GL.iNet GL-MT3000 router firmware 4.4.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands by manipulating the dev_name argument passed to the dlopen function in the /usr/lib/oui-httpd/rpc/ Path Normalization Handler, reachable via the nas-web.eject_disk RPC method. Publicly available exploit code exists on GitHub demonstrating the chain. No CISA KEV listing and EPSS data was not provided, but the network-reachable, no-authentication CVSS vector combined with public PoC makes this a meaningful risk for exposed devices.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade GL-MT3000 firmware to version 4.7 or later, which removes nas-web.eject_disk from the /rpc method whitelist so the vulnerable code path can no longer be reached by remote callers (per the vendor statement). Until 4.7 can be applied, disable any remote/WAN administration on the device, restrict access to the LuCI/oui-httpd web and /rpc endpoints to a trusted management VLAN or specific source IPs via firewall rules, and disconnect or do not attach USB storage if the eject_disk workflow is not in use - note that locking down /rpc will also disable legitimate web-UI features that depend on it, and disabling USB attachment removes NAS/share functionality. Monitor http access logs on the router for unexpected POSTs to /rpc invoking nas-web.eject_disk. Advisory tracking: https://vuldb.com/vuln/369070.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) is a consumer/SOHO travel router running OpenWrt-derived firmware. The vulnerable code path lives in the oui-httpd JSON-RPC service at /usr/lib/oui-httpd/rpc/, which exposes Lua/C handlers including the nas-web module's eject_disk function. That handler passes the user-supplied dev_name parameter into a dlopen-related path normalization routine without sufficient sanitization, allowing shell metacharacters to break out of the intended argument context. The root cause maps to CWE-77 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in a Command), a classic command-injection weakness common in router web/RPC interfaces that shell out to system utilities.

2DescriptionCVE.org
A vulnerability was detected in GL.iNet GL-MT3000 4.4.5. This affects the function dlopen in the library /usr/lib/oui-httpd/rpc/ of the component Path Normalization Handler. Performing a manipulation of the argument dev_name results in command injection. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 4.7 mitigates this issue. It is advisable to upgrade the affected component. The vendor confirms: " From version 4.7 onward, we have enabled method‑level validation at the HTTP /rpc layer. nas‑web.eject_disk is no longer in the whitelist of allowed methods. Consequently, directly calling eject_disk through the default /rpc endpoint returns Invalid params, preventing entry into subsequent dangerous functions and blocking the remote exploit chain described in the report."
Executive ViewAI
GL.iNet GL-MT3000 routers running firmware 4.4.5 contain a command injection vulnerability enabling unauthenticated remote attackers to execute arbitrary OS commands on the router. Organizations deploying this device model face immediate risk of complete router compromise, exposing all network traffic and creating a potential pivot point for lateral attacks into internal systems.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Implement firewall rules to restrict inbound access to the router's RPC endpoints from untrusted networks; (2) Disable the nas-web RPC service entirely if not required for operational use; (3) Deploy network segmentation to isolate the router and its management interfaces from production systems; (4) Enable logging and alerting on network traffic to /usr/lib/oui-httpd/rpc/ path to detect exploitation attempts; (5) Publicly available exploit code exists-prioritize this as higher risk than non-public vulnerabilities.
