In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

HID: playstation: Clamp num_touch_reports

A device would never lie about the number of touch reports would it?

If it does the loop in dualshock4_parse_report will read off the end of the touch_reports array, up to about 2 KiB for the maximum number of 256 loop iteraions. The data that is read is emitted via evdev if the DS4_TOUCH_POINT_INACTIVE bit happens to be set. Protect against this by clamping the num_touch_reports value provided by the device to the maximum size of the touch_reports array.

Because the field is a single byte interpreted as a loop bound up to 256, while the touch_reports array is much smaller, a malicious device can cause the loop to walk past the end of the structure and read adjacent kernel memory. The leaked bytes are then conditionally emitted to userspace via the evdev input subsystem when the DS4_TOUCH_POINT_INACTIVE bit is observed, turning a missing-bounds-check (CWE-125, out-of-bounds read) into an information-disclosure primitive. The fix clamps num_touch_reports to the array's maximum size.

Upstream fix available as the noted git.kernel.org commits; vendor-released patches are available in Linux stable 6.6.140, 6.12.90, 7.0.9, 7.1-rc4, and 6.18.32, so upgrade to one of these or a later kernel from your distribution (Red Hat, SUSE, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.) once the backport ships. As a compensating control where patching is delayed, unload or blacklist the hid-playstation module on systems that do not legitimately use DualShock 4 controllers (echo 'blacklist hid-playstation' into /etc/modprobe.d/), which removes the vulnerable parser at the cost of breaking native DS4 support; on multi-user or kiosk systems, restrict physical USB access and disable Bluetooth pairing for untrusted devices, which mitigates exposure but does not eliminate the bug.
