Exploitation Conditions

No special conditions - remote unauthenticated exploitation against default configurations of any Yeti instance prior to 2.5.1 whose /api/v2 API is network-reachable. The only prerequisite is network reachability of the Yeti API (default port 8000); the audit router ships without the Depends(auth.get_current_active_user) gate that every other router enforces, so no account, API key, session token, or non-default setting is required and an empty/partial/wildcard {id:path} returns all records. Limiting factors: impact is confined to read-only disclosure of TimelineLog data (actor, target_id, action, details) with no integrity or availability effect, and exploitation requires that the attacker can route to the API endpoint, so instances behind a reverse proxy, VPN, or network ACL that blocks direct API access are not externally exposed.

Impact

All signals point to a genuine, easy-to-exploit information-disclosure flaw. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N) describes network-reachable, low-complexity, fully unauthenticated access with no user interaction, and C:H/I:N/A:N correctly scopes the impact to confidentiality only - there is no code execution or integrity/availability loss, so the 7.5 score is read-disclosure, not system compromise. The root cause (CWE-306, missing router-level auth dependency) is confirmed by the GHSA advisory, PR #1276 diff, and the 2.5.1 release, and a working proof-of-concept (curl against /api/v2/audit/timeline/ with an empty path) with live validation output is published in the advisory itself, so exploitation is trivial for anyone who can reach the API. No CISA KEV listing and no EPSS score are present in the input, so there is no evidence of active in-the-wild exploitation yet; the vuln.today decision label is 'this_week', indicating prompt but not emergency remediation. Net: this is a real priority for any exposed Yeti instance - low attack cost, no auth barrier, and high-value data (the entire operational CTI dataset plus analyst identities) - tempered only by the confidentiality-only impact and the niche deployment footprint of the product.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An unauthenticated attacker who can reach a pre-2.5.1 Yeti instance's API issues GET /api/v2/audit/timeline/ with an empty path segment and receives the full TimelineLog, exposing every analyst username and the values and before/after edit history of all observables, indicators, and entities. Because the vector is network, low-complexity, and requires no privileges or user interaction, no special tooling is needed - the GHSA advisory publishes the exact curl commands along with live validation output confirming an HTTP 200 and full record dump.

AnalysisAIv1 – Nov 03, 2026

Unauthenticated information disclosure in Yeti Platform (yeti-platform/yeti) before 2.5.1: the audit router is mounted on the FastAPI application without the Depends(auth.get_current_active_user) gate that every other router enforces, so a remote unauthenticated attacker who can reach the /api/v2 API (default port 8000) can read the entire TimelineLog audit trail. Because the route uses a wildcard {id:path} parameter, an empty, partial, or specific path segment returns all matching records, exposing analyst usernames, object identifiers, and full before-and-after details of threat-intelligence objects such as IP addresses, domains, URLs, and file hashes. The advisory publishes reproduction steps validated against a live Docker deployment, but there is no KEV listing and no confirmed active exploitation; the flaw is read-only (no integrity or availability impact) and is remediated in version 2.5.1.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Yeti 2.5.1, which adds dependencies=[Depends(auth.get_current_active_user)] to the audit router inclusion in core/web/webapp.py (release https://github.com/yeti-platform/yeti/releases/tag/2.5.1, fix PR https://github.com/yeti-platform/yeti/pull/1276, commit https://github.com/yeti-platform/yeti/commit/692af02ffc05faabc8638b15a88765cb0e3f2503, advisory https://github.com/yeti-platform/yeti/security/advisories/GHSA-34r4-95hx-gxqr). If upgrading immediately is not possible, block external reachability of the audit endpoint at a reverse proxy or WAF by denying requests to /api/v2/audit/ while leaving the rest of /api/v2 available; the trade-off is that authenticated analysts lose the timeline view in the UI until the patch is applied. Alternatively, restrict the whole Yeti API (default port 8000) behind a VPN or network ACL so only trusted networks can route to it, which removes the exposure but also prevents legitimate remote use of the platform and any external integrations. There is no evidence of an in-product configuration toggle that disables the audit router, so network-level filtering or the upgrade itself are the available options.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Yeti is a Python FastAPI application whose v2 API is assembled in core/web/webapp.py, where each router (observables, entities, indicators, users, tasks, graph, agents, auth) is included with dependencies=[Depends(auth.get_current_active_user)] to enforce session authentication at the router level. The audit router is the sole exception: it is included with only a prefix and tag, and core/web/apiv2/audit.py adds no per-route check either, so the GET /api/v2/audit/timeline/{id:path} handler executes TimelineLog.filter({"target_id": id}) directly with no user verification. This is CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function). The wildcard path converter means an empty id or a prefix such as 'observables' matches broadly rather than requiring an exact target identifier, so a single request can dump the full collection. The TimelineLog schema in core/schemas/audit.py stores actor (username), target_id (collection/id such as observables/1893), action (create/update/delete/tag) and details (the full object dict at the time of the action). That the separate AuditLog collection is never exposed through any API route indicates the intent was to serve TimelineLog only to authenticated users; the missing dependency is an oversight rather than a design choice.

DescriptionCVE.org

Yeti bridges the gap between CTI and DFIR practitioners by providing a Forensics Intelligence platform and pipeline. Prior to 2.5.1, YETI registers the audit router without Depends(auth.get_current_active_user), and core/web/apiv2/audit.py does not perform a route-level authentication check for /api/v2/audit/timeline/{id}. An unauthenticated network attacker can use an empty, partial, or specific wildcard path to query TimelineLog records containing the actor, target_id, action, and details fields, including analyst usernames, object identifiers and values, and before-and-after object data. This exposes the operational history of threat-intelligence objects while other application routers require authentication. This issue is fixed in version 2.5.1.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

An unauthenticated access-control gap in the Yeti threat-intelligence platform exposes the complete audit trail-including analyst identities, indicators of compromise such as IPs, domains, and file hashes, and before/after object changes-to anyone who can reach the API. This affects the confidentiality of sensitive CTI operations and analytical activity, and could erode trust with partners and clients if leaked data identifies sources, targets, or investigations. Leadership should care because exposed threat-intelligence data can reveal investigative priorities and partner-shared indicators, creating reputational and contractual risk even without any integrity or availability impact.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis for versions before 2.5.1; upgrade to 2.5.1 is the remediation. Interim mitigations: restrict network access to the /api/v2 endpoint on port 8000 to trusted networks or VPN, enforce authentication at a reverse proxy or WAF in front of Yeti for audit/TimelineLog routes, and monitor access logs for unauthenticated requests to the audit endpoint.
