Exploitation Conditions

Requires a valid low-privilege authenticated session on the Termix web application (CVSS PR:L) and reachability of the file-manager plugin endpoint /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost; the attacker supplies a crafted destPath argument to escape the intended write directory. Applies to Termix up to 2.9.2 where the transfer engine honored the destPath shortcut; it is fixed in the standalone File Manager plugin v1.0.0 (transfer engine now always writes over SFTP) and in core v26.10.0. Limiting factors: exploitation is not fully unauthenticated (an account/credential is needed), the file-manager plugin must be present and reachable, and the instance must be running a vulnerable version. Per the vendor history, updating to the fixed versions is the stated remedy; no vendor-provided mitigation is documented since the vendor did not respond to disclosure.

Impact

This is a credible near-term priority rather than a high-CVSS paper tiger, but the raw 8.6 should be read against weak corroboration. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) describes a remotely reachable, low-complexity flaw that requires only low-privilege authentication, and CWE-22 path traversal in a file-transfer endpoint plausibly yields the high integrity/availability impact claimed (arbitrary file write over SFTP to the target host). The vuln.today decision label is 'this_week', consistent with a serious-but-not-emergency triage. However, key amplifying signals are absent or soft: the CVE is NOT in CISA KEV, no EPSS exploitation-probability score is provided, and the only exploit artifact is a GitHub write-up referenced by VulDB that is not verified as working exploit code. The E:P (Proof-of-Concept) in the CVSS vector matches that PoC-reference status rather than confirmed active exploitation. The single originating source is VulDB, and the vendor did not respond to disclosure, so there is no vendor advisory to independently confirm the affected endpoint, the version range, or the fix. Net: treat as a genuine authenticated remote file-write risk warranting prompt patching on exposed Termix instances, while recognizing the evidence base is single-sourced and the real-world exploitation signal is PoC-level, not in-the-wild.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who holds a low-privilege account on an internet- or network-reachable Termix instance (up to 2.9.2) sends a request to /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost with a destPath value containing traversal sequences, causing a file to be written outside the intended directory on the target host. A public PoC reference exists but is not verified as working exploit code, so weaponization effort is still required. Because the write targets arbitrary host paths, a successful write (e.g. to a startup script, authorized_keys, or web root) can escalate to code execution.

AnalysisAIv2 – Nov 02, 2026

Path traversal in Termix (Termix-SSH) up to 2.9.2 lets a remote attacker who holds a valid low-privilege account write files outside the intended directory by manipulating the destPath argument sent to the file-manager plugin endpoint /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost, with assessed impact of high confidentiality, integrity and availability loss and a scope change beyond the application. Exploitation requires an authenticated session and a reachable, installed file-manager plugin, so it is not an unauthenticated attack. A public PoC reference exists; it is not verified as working exploit code, there is no CISA KEV confirmation of active exploitation, and the issue is fixed in the standalone File Manager plugin v1.0.0 and in core v26.10.0.

Earlier versions of this analysis (1)
v1 Nov 02, 2026 - 02:12 CVSS 9.4

Path traversal in the Termix-SSH Termix File Manager endpoint /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost allows an authenticated user to write files outside the intended destination directory by manipulating the destPath argument, affecting Termix through 2.9.2. The independent assessment scores this AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C with high confidentiality, integrity and availability impact on both the vulnerable and subsequent systems, since an arbitrary file write (CWE-22) can escalate to host compromise. Exploitation requires a valid account on the Termix instance and the File Manager transfer feature to be reachable, so fully anonymous attackers cannot exploit it; a public PoC reference exists (a GitHub writeup linked from VulDB), but it is not verified as working exploit code, and no confirmed active exploitation has been reported. The priority decision is act_now, and a fix is available in core v26.10.0 and the standalone File Manager plugin v1.0.0.

RemediationAI

The documented remedy is to upgrade: core Termix to v26.10.0 and the standalone File Manager plugin to v1.0.0, where the destPath shortcut is removed and the transfer engine always writes over SFTP. Because the vendor did not respond to the disclosure, no vendor-provided workaround or mitigation is documented, so the version upgrade is the only confirmed fix. The assessed limiting factors that reduce exposure pending upgrade are that exploitation requires a valid low-privilege authenticated session, that the file-manager plugin must be installed and its /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost endpoint reachable, and that the instance must be running a vulnerable version - so instances without the plugin, or where that endpoint is only reachable by trusted accounts, carry lower exposure. The public PoC reference at https://github.com/0xGenesi/CVE/blob/main/Termix_FileManager_transferToHost_Arbitrary_File_Write.md is not verified as working exploit code but should be treated as a signal that exploitation details are circulating.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The flaw is a classic CWE-22 path traversal in Termix's file-manager plugin transfer handler. The endpoint /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost accepted a caller-supplied destPath and the transfer engine honored it as a shortcut rather than constraining the write to the plugin's intended destination directory, allowing relative or absolute traversal sequences to redirect the written file. The vendor subsequently removed the shortcut: the transfer engine in the standalone File Manager plugin v1.0.0 now always writes over SFTP, and core v26.10.0 carries the same change. The affected CPE is cpe:2.3:a:termix-ssh:termix across all versions up to and including 2.9.2. The CVSS vector marks scope as changed (S:C), reflecting that the file write can affect resources beyond the vulnerable component; the exact mechanism by which a crafted destPath escapes the write root is described only at the level of argument manipulation in the available sources. The vendor was contacted about the disclosure but did not respond.

DescriptionCVE.org

A vulnerability was identified in Termix-SSH Termix up to 2.9.2. This issue affects some unknown processing of the file /plugin-api/file-manager/transferToHost. The manipulation of the argument destPath leads to path traversal. The attack may be initiated remotely. The exploit is publicly available and might be used. The shortcut was removed in the standalone File Manager plugin v1.0.0 (transfer engine now always writes over SFTP) and in core v26.10.0. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure but did not respond in any way.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Termix-SSH, used for secure file transfers, contains a high-severity path traversal flaw (CVE-2026-120322) that allows authenticated low-privilege users to write files outside intended directories, potentially compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability beyond the application. This affects organizations running Termix up to 2.9.2 with the file-manager plugin, and while no active exploitation is confirmed, a public proof-of-concept reference exists. Leadership should prioritize patching to prevent potential data breaches or system disruptions from insider or compromised account abuse.
