| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires the default configuration where allowCrossNamespaceResources is disabled, and only affects Traefik v3.7.11 through v3.7.14 using the Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider (Traefik v2 and pre-3.7.11 are not affected). The attacker must have rights to create Ingresses in a namespace (PR:H), and - per the AT:P attack requirement - a target CA secret must ALREADY be referenced by another Ingress so that the shared client-authentication TLS option is cached; only then does the later Ingress reuse the cached option and bypass the cross-namespace check. Limiting factors: impact is confined to enforcing a foreign CA on the attacker's own routes and learning whether the secret exists and is in use - the secret's contents are NOT disclosed, and the bypass does not occur on the first (uncached) build of the TLS option. |
| Impact | All decision signals agree this is a low-priority, low-risk issue. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 base score is 2.1 (Low) with vector AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:H/UI:N/VC:N/VI:L/VA:N/SC:L/SI:N/SA:N: network vector but high privileges required (PR:H - the attacker must already be able to create Ingresses), an attack requirement present (AT:P - a shared client-auth TLS option must already be cached by another Ingress), no confidentiality impact on the vulnerable system (VC:N), and only low integrity/subsequent-confidentiality impact. KEV status is NO (not listed by CISA), so this is not confirmed as actively exploited. No public exploit was identified - the two references are the Traefik GHSA advisory and the VulnCheck advisory, both write-ups rather than working exploit code. The vuln.today decision label is 'monitor', consistent with the low score. No EPSS score was provided in the input, so real-world exploitation probability cannot be quantified here. There are no conflicting signals: a CVSS Low, no KEV, no PoC, and a 'monitor' decision all point the same direction. This is a genuine but minor cross-namespace isolation weakness, not an urgent priority. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | In a multi-tenant Kubernetes cluster, a user who only has rights to create Ingresses in their own namespace notices that another namespace already uses a CA secret via the nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-tls-secret annotation. They create an Ingress referencing that foreign CA secret; because the shared client-authentication TLS option is already cached, the cross-namespace check is skipped and the foreign CA is enforced as the client certificate authority on the attacker's own routes, confirming the secret exists and is in use. No public exploit code exists, and the secret's contents are never disclosed. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 30, 2026
Cross-namespace authorization bypass in Traefik's Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider (v3.7.11 through v3.7.14) lets a user who can create Ingress resources have a CA secret belonging to another namespace enforced as the client certificate authority on their own routes, and infer whether that secret exists and is in use, although its contents are never disclosed. The bypass only occurs when a client-authentication TLS option is already cached from another Ingress referencing that same CA secret, because the cross-namespace check runs only on the first build of the option while allowCrossNamespaceResources is disabled (the default); the flaw was introduced in v3.7.11 when client-auth TLS options began being shared across Ingresses, and Traefik v2 and pre-3.7.11 releases are unaffected. Severity is low (CVSS 2.1 v4.0; independently assessed CVSS 3.1 5.0-equivalent vector AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N), the priority decision is monitor, and no public exploit or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to Traefik v3.7.15 (https://github.com/traefik/traefik/releases/tag/v3.7.15), which is the fixed version listed for the go/github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 module covering the vulnerable range v3.7.11 through v3.7.14; the release notes and GHSA-28hp-c82p-8vqj should be used to validate the upgrade in your environment. Because the flaw was introduced in v3.7.11 together with the sharing of client-authentication TLS options across Ingresses, remaining on a pre-3.7.11 release avoids the defect, at the cost of losing the changes shipped from v3.7.11 onward. The supplied sources do not describe an alternative configuration-level workaround; note that the bypass only manifests when a client-authentication TLS option is already cached from another Ingress using the same CA secret, and that the exposure requires an actor able to create Ingresses in a namespace, so review which subjects hold Ingress-creation rights on clusters running the affected versions while the upgrade is scheduled. Verify after upgrading that Ingresses referencing the nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-tls-secret annotation in a different namespace than the referenced Secret are rejected again.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Traefik's Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider ingests standard Kubernetes Ingress objects annotated with NGINX-style directives; the nginx.ingress.kubernetes.io/auth-tls-secret annotation names a Secret containing a CA bundle that Traefik turns into a mutual-TLS client-authentication TLS option applied to the routes of that Ingress. Because Traefik caches and shares client-authentication TLS options across Ingresses (behavior introduced in v3.7.11), the code path that validates the referenced Secret against namespace isolation - governed by the allowCrossNamespaceResources setting, disabled by default - executes only when the TLS option is first constructed. A later Ingress that resolves to an already-cached option therefore reuses it without re-running the cross-namespace check, which is an instance of CWE-863 (incorrect authorization): the authorization decision is bound to object creation rather than to each use. The result is a limited integrity/scope impact - the foreign CA is enforced on the attacker's own routes and the attacker can probe for the existence and active use of the secret - with no confidentiality impact on the secret material itself. Deployment relevance is narrow: only Traefik v3.7.11 through v3.7.14 with the Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider enabled are exposed (CPE cpe:2.3:a:traefik:traefik, Go module go/github.com/traefik/traefik/v3 vulnerable from v3.7.11 to v3.7.14); the precondition for the bypass is that the target CA secret is already referenced by some other Ingress so that a shared TLS option is cached, so the first, uncached build of an option is still checked.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Traefik 3.7.11 before 3.7.15 contains an authorization bypass in the Kubernetes Ingress NGINX provider that skips the cross-namespace check on the auth-tls-secret annotation when a cached client authentication TLS option is reused. Users who can create Ingresses can reference another namespace's CA secret already used by another Ingress, enforcing it on their own routes and learning whether it exists, without disclosure of its contents.
