Exploitation Conditions

Requires an n8n instance (2.14.0-2.46.3) running a workflow that uses the Databricks node AND binds its spaceId, indexName, or filePath parameters to attacker-controllable input delivered through a webhook, chat, or form trigger, with a valid Databricks credential stored on that workflow. The flaw is that the node builds the Public API request path from the caller-supplied identifier without encoding or validating it, so ../ sequences repoint the authenticated call. Limiting factors: the vulnerable field must be expression-bound to untrusted input (not a default configuration - reflected in AC:H/AT:P), and the attacker's reach is bounded to resources the stored credential already has scope for. The webhook/form entry point itself is unauthenticated (PR:N).

Impact

The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:H/AT:P/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H) scores 8.2 (High) and describes an unauthenticated, network-reachable path traversal whose only impact is high confidentiality (reading secrets via a stored Databricks credential), with no integrity or availability effect. Two signals temper the headline severity: AC:H and AT:P indicate the attack is not turn-key - it depends on an n8n workflow being built so that webhook/chat/form input is bound to the Databricks node's spaceId, indexName, or filePath fields, which is a deployment-specific precondition rather than a default state. EPSS is not provided in the input, and the vulnerability is NOT listed in CISA KEV, so there is no confirmed active exploitation; the vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' (elevated but not act_now/emergency). A public technical research writeup (abraxaslabs.tech) and the vulnerable source lines are referenced, but the input does not mark a verified working exploit as available. Net assessment: a genuine, credential-exposing issue worth patching on a near-term (this-week) cadence, but real-world risk is gated by whether the Databricks node is actually used with untrusted-input binding - it is not a blanket remote-root scenario. EPSS is missing, so widespread-vs-targeted exploitation likelihood cannot be quantified from the data.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker sends a crafted request to a public webhook, chat, or form endpoint of an n8n instance whose workflow passes that input into the Databricks node's spaceId, indexName, or filePath parameter. By injecting unencoded ../ sequences and query strings, the attacker redirects the Databricks API call - authenticated with the workflow's stored credential - to an arbitrary endpoint and reads secrets outside the intended scope. A public technical writeup describes the mechanism; the input does not confirm verified working exploit code, and the CVE is not in CISA KEV.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 30, 2026

Unauthenticated path traversal in n8n's Databricks node (2.14.0 through 2.46.3) lets an attacker who can feed a webhook, chat, or form field into a workflow's spaceId, indexName, or filePath parameter redirect an otherwise authenticated Databricks API call to another endpoint and read secrets with the workflow's stored credential. Exploitation requires that expression binding and a valid stored Databricks credential, and reach stays within what that credential is authorized to access; the CVSS 4.0 score is 8.2 (High) with confidentiality-only impact. No CISA KEV entry and no public exploit identified at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: 1.123.80, 2.39.6, and 2.40.1 are listed in GHSA-89p4-6h98-c7xm as fixed versions for the unencoded-resource-id path traversal class, but because the CVE record and EUVD list the Databricks-node affected range as 2.14.0 through 2.46.3, confirm the Databricks-specific advisory GHSA-rqch-9jrh-cr8w and use the fixed release it names for the 2.x branch (or later) before assuming 2.40.1 resolves this Databricks-specific issue. If upgrading is delayed, restrict access to the n8n instance to trusted users (this breaks external or untrusted integrations), audit Databricks-node workflows so spaceId, indexName, and filePath are not bound to untrusted expressions (this may require redesigning public forms and chat flows), disable or restrict public webhook, chat, and form endpoints that feed those workflows (this stops legitimate automations), and rotate Databricks credentials that may have been exposed (this can disrupt live workflows until credentials are updated). These are temporary mitigations only; the vendor states that workarounds do not fully remediate the risk and that upgrading is the complete fix. Technical ContextAI · show details

n8n is a workflow-automation platform whose built-in Databricks node makes REST calls to Databricks using a credential stored on the workflow. The node assembles request paths from caller-supplied resource identifiers - spaceId in the Genie getSpace operation, indexName in Vector Search getIndex, and filePath in Files downloadFile - without encoding or validating them. The CWE-22 path-traversal flaw means ../ sequences and query strings can repoint the request to a different Databricks API endpoint while the request is still authenticated with the workflow's stored credential. The CVSS 4.0 vector's AC:H/AT:P reflects the prerequisite that the vulnerable field be expression-bound to untrusted input rather than a default configuration; PR:N reflects that the webhook, chat, or form entry point itself is unauthenticated; only confidentiality is affected (VC:H), and the attacker's reach is bounded by the scope of the stored Databricks credential. The trigger is specifically the mapped input path described in the CVE and independent assessment; other deployment modes are not confirmed as affected. Two GitHub advisories are referenced, GHSA-89p4-6h98-c7xm and GHSA-rqch-9jrh-cr8w, and the CPE cpe:2.3:a:n8n-io:n8n:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* identifies the n8n product family.

DescriptionCVE.org

n8n from 2.14.0 through 2.46.3 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the Databricks node that allows unauthenticated attackers to reach arbitrary Databricks API endpoints by injecting unencoded resource identifiers. Attackers can supply ../ sequences and query strings via webhook, chat, or form inputs mapped to spaceId, indexName, or filePath to read secrets using the stored credential.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

A high-severity vulnerability in the n8n Databricks integration (versions 2.14.0-2.46.3) could allow an unauthenticated external party to redirect Databricks API calls and read secrets using stored credentials when a workflow exposes user-controllable input to specific parameters. This affects organizations using n8n automation with Databricks credentials, potentially leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data within Databricks. Leadership should prioritize mitigation given the confidentiality impact and absence of a vendor patch.

Business Impact: High
Compensating Controls

No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations include: validate and sanitize all external inputs to workflow parameters (spaceId, indexName, filePath); avoid expression binding from webhook/chat/form fields to these parameters; enforce least-privilege Databricks credentials; monitor for unauthorized API calls; consider disabling the Databricks node until a patch is available.
