Exploitation Conditions

The attacker must have adjacent-network access to the RE305 V3 - connected to its wireless network or the same local LAN (AV:A) - but requires no credentials (PR:N), no user interaction (UI:N), and no special victim-side configuration; the country/region configuration interface itself lacks the authorization check (CWE-306). The primary limiting factor is that this is not internet-remote: an attacker on a different network cannot reach the interface, so exposure depends on who can join the local wireless/wired segment. Impact is further limited to wireless availability/service quality (VA:L) - disconnections, unavailable channels, and application of wrong-region parameters - with no confidentiality or integrity compromise of device data.

Impact

This is a genuinely medium/low-priority issue rather than a disguised critical. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:A/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N) confirms an unauthenticated, low-complexity attack, but the adjacent-network requirement (AV:A) means the attacker must already be on the same LAN/WLAN as the RE305, which sharply limits the exploit population versus a remote (AV:N) flaw. Impact is confined to availability (VA:L; VC:N/VI:N), so this is a wireless-disruption/denial-of-service-of-service-quality issue, not code execution or data exposure, consistent with the 5.3 base score. No EPSS score was supplied, the CVE is not in CISA KEV, and no public exploit or PoC reference is present in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vendor-assigned decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency), aligning with the moderate severity. One minor cross-reference note: the Tags label this 'Authentication Bypass' while the assigned weakness is CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for a Critical Function) and the description frames it as an authorization flaw on the region-config interface - these are closely related framings of the same missing-access-control root cause, not a conflict that changes the risk. Overall: a real but bounded, locally-scoped availability weakness; patch within normal cycles rather than as an emergency.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who has joined the RE305 V3's local network (for example by connecting to its Wi-Fi) sends a request to the unauthenticated country/region configuration interface to change the wireless regulatory region. The device accepts the change without authorization and reapplies its wireless configuration, dropping connected clients and potentially disabling channels. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

The country/region configuration interface of the TP-Link RE305 V3 range extender lacks an authorization check, so anyone who can reach it from the same local network - joined to its Wi-Fi or on the same LAN - can rewrite the wireless regulatory region and force the device to reapply its wireless configuration, with no credentials or user interaction needed. The practical result is limited to wireless availability: interrupted connections, unavailable channels, client disconnections and unstable service, plus operating parameters meant for a different regulatory domain; there is no loss of confidentiality or of device-data integrity. Exploitation is constrained to the adjacent network segment rather than the internet, so exposure depends on who can join that local wireless or wired network. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, and TP-Link has released fixed firmware.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: update the RE305 V3 to firmware 1.1.8 Build 20260921 Rel. 42853 or later, available from https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/re305/v3/#Firmware (or the /en/ download page), following the vendor FAQ at https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/5362/ for the upgrade procedure. Because the flaw is reachable by any host on the adjacent network, the interim control is to restrict who can join that segment: keep the extender's Wi-Fi on WPA2/WPA3 with a strong pre-shared key, avoid open or guest-shared SSIDs bridged to the management interface, and keep untrusted devices off the LAN side - at the cost of tighter onboarding convenience for guests and IoT clients. Where the device supports it, limiting administrative access to the extender's management interface to trusted clients reduces reachability of the region-setting endpoint, with the trade-off that legitimate administration must come from those addresses. TP-Link's advisory does not describe any further workaround, and applying the fixed firmware is the complete fix.

Technical ContextAI · show details

CWE-306 (Missing Authentication for Critical Function) applies to the country/region configuration handler in the RE305 V3's web management interface: the endpoint that sets the wireless regulatory domain is reachable and effective without the caller proving an authenticated administrative session. Because the write is accepted and triggers a reapply of the wireless configuration, an adjacent-network attacker can force channel and transmit-power parameters belonging to a different regulatory region, which the device then uses for its radio. Per the assessed vector (AV:A/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L), the weakness is network-adjacent and trivially triggered by any host on the same wireless or wired segment, requires no credentials and no victim interaction, and affects only availability; confidentiality and integrity of device data are untouched, and the scope stays within the device. The affected firmware branch is RE305 v3 below 1.1.8 Build 20260921 Rel. 42853, matching the CPE cpe:2.3:a:tp-link_systems_inc.:re305_v3 and the EUVD-listed version range. The exact request sequence and the internal code path that omits the check are not described in the available sources.

DescriptionCVE.org

An authorization vulnerability exists in the country or region configuration interface of TP-Link RE305 V3. An unauthenticated attacker on the same local network may modify the wireless regulatory region and force the device to reapply its wireless configuration.

Successful exploitation may cause wireless connection interruptions, unavailable channels, client disconnections, or wireless service instability, and may cause the device to apply parameters intended for a different regulatory region.
