| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated ordinary Member account that is eligible to participate in the target event (PR:L). The event must have a maximum-participants limit set and 'Participants can register anonymous guests' DISABLED - the precise policy the flaw bypasses; when guests are disabled the form still ships additional_guests as a hidden input that the handler trusts. The attacker also needs a valid session cookie and the per-request adm_csrf_token (both obtained normally by the logged-in member) and modifies only the additional_guests value in the POST to modules/events/events_function.php?mode=participate. Limiting factors: no anonymous/unauthenticated path (membership and event eligibility required), a valid CSRF token is needed, and impact is confined to blocking registration and skewing the participant count - there is no confidentiality breach or remote code execution. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but low-severity, authenticated business-logic flaw (CWE-602, client-side enforcement of server-side security) rather than a high-impact issue. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) confirms network reachability and low complexity but requires privileges (PR:L) - i.e. a valid, event-eligible Member account - and the only impact is low integrity (VI:L) with no confidentiality (VC:N) and no system availability (VA:N) effect; the practical consequence is denial of event registration for other members plus corruption of the participant count, not code execution or data theft. No EPSS score is provided and the vulnerability is NOT in CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of active exploitation; exploitation status is best described as a public proof-of-concept existing in the vendor GHSA advisory. The vuln.today decision label is this_month, consistent with a real-but-non-emergency defect that warrants scheduled patching rather than immediate incident response. One signal tension worth noting: the input Tags label this 'Information Disclosure', which conflicts with the CVSS confidentiality impact of VC:N/C:N - the core issue is access-control/capacity abuse, with only an incidental leak of the event's 'Max. participants' value observed in the PoC. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An ordinary authenticated Admidio member opens an event whose organizer disabled guest registration, intercepts the normal participation POST to events_function.php, and changes the hidden additional_guests field from 0 to the number of remaining seats. The server trusts the client-supplied value and counts those phantom guests against the event's maximum, filling capacity so no other member can register. A detailed, confirmed proof-of-concept with HTTP requests and screenshots is published in the GHSA advisory (GHSA-92g9-59rr-c3qg). |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Event guest policy bypass in Admidio 5.0.16 and earlier lets an ordinary logged-in member consume an event's entire remaining seat count by tampering with the hidden additional_guests field, so registration closes for everyone else. A single modified POST to modules/events/events_function.php?mode=participate is enough: the handler never checks the event's dat_additional_guests setting before counting and storing the client-supplied value as mem_count_guests, so guest registration being disabled provides no protection. Impact is confined to integrity of the participant roster and denial of signup for other members (CVSS 5.3, our assessed CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N) with no confidentiality loss or code execution; there is no CISA KEV listing, the linked GitHub security advisory includes public reproduction steps (a PoC reference) that were not independently verified here as working exploit code, and a vendor patch exists in 5.0.17.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Admidio to 5.0.17 or later, which enforces the event's guest policy server-side by clamping $additionalGuests to 0 unless dat_additional_guests is enabled (commit 5b0ee3585d2a69a6e85fee00b7b93f3ebc1e44d9, release https://github.com/Admidio/admidio/releases/tag/v5.0.17); installation and upgrade notes are on the project at https://github.com/Admidio/admidio. The provided sources do not document any workaround for unfixed installations - the vendor and advisory position is that applying the update is the fix - so interim risk handling has to be organizational: audit and clean up mem_count_guests values on events where the recorded participant count looks inflated, and treat confirmed abuse of this bypass as a roster-integrity incident affecting members who were locked out of registration. Because the vulnerability is an authenticated business-logic bypass rather than a remote-code or data-disclosure issue, priority is this_month per the vuln.today decision label, driven by the need for a member account and event eligibility rather than by any confirmed active exploitation.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Admidio is a PHP web application for membership and event management. The flaw is CWE-602, client-side enforcement of server-side security: when 'Participants can register anonymous guests' is disabled, the participation form rendered by modules/events/events_participation.php still ships additional_guests as a hidden input, and the participate/cancel handler in modules/events/events_function.php (roughly lines 417-462 in 5.0.16) uses that request value directly in the capacity calculation and writes it into the membership record's mem_count_guests field without consulting the event's dat_additional_guests policy. The seat-limit check therefore compares the attacker-chosen guest count against dat_max_members and happily succeeds, and later registrations are rejected because the event appears full. The upstream fix (commit 5b0ee3585d2a69a6e85fee00b7b93f3ebc1e44d9) derives $additionalGuests server-side, forcing it to 0 unless dat_additional_guests equals 1, and uses that sanitized value for both the limit check and the stored count. The affected CPE is the version-wildcard entry cpe:2.3:a:admidio:admidio:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*, with EUVD recording the vulnerable range as admidio 0 < 5.0.17. Exploitation requires an authenticated account that is eligible for the event, plus the normal session cookie and per-request adm_csrf_token; the trigger for the bypass is the unsynchronized hidden form field, and no memory-safety, injection or deserialization primitive is involved.

DescriptionCVE.org
Admidio before 5.0.17 contains an improper access control vulnerability that allows authenticated members to register event guests by submitting the additional_guests field when guests are disallowed. Attackers can set additional_guests to the remaining seat count in modules/events/events_function.php to exhaust event capacity and block other members from registering.
