| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the legacy RSS servlet (RssResolver, GET /rss/) be reachable on a Goobi viewer-core instance prior to 26.05; this servlet predates the REST API and lacks the input validation present in GET /api/v1/records/rss. No authentication, user interaction, or non-default toggle is required to reach the endpoint (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N). The meaningful limiting factor is data-dependent: the disclosure only yields sensitive results on instances that actually hold access-restricted records, since the attack renders the access-condition filter suffix optional; instances serving only public material have nothing additional to leak. Impact is further bounded to the specific metadata fields the feed renders (title, author, publisher, place/year, shelfmark, URN, persistent identifier, record link) - the Solr FULLTEXT field is not stored or rendered and restricted thumbnails remain separately access-gated. |
| Impact | Severity is genuinely moderate and the signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting. The vendor-supplied CVSS of 5.3 (CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:N) describes a remote, unauthenticated, low-complexity flaw whose only impact is limited confidentiality - bibliographic metadata of access-restricted records leaked through the RSS feed, with no integrity or availability effect and no full-text exposure. No EPSS score and no KEV listing are present in the input, and no public exploit code is referenced (only the vendor advisory, patch commits, and the release tag), so there is no evidence of active or at-scale exploitation. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', which aligns with the picture of a real but non-emergency confidentiality issue rather than an act_now/emergency item. The one caveat is impact scope: the leak only matters on instances that actually host access-restricted records, so for an instance serving only public material the practical risk is close to nil. Net: a legitimate patch-this-cycle issue for affected libraries/archives, not a drop-everything priority, and the low real-world footprint of the product further bounds aggregate risk. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An unauthenticated attacker sends a crafted GET request to the legacy /rss/ servlet, placing Solr boolean operators in the q (and/or filterQuery) parameter to break out of the literal-parenthesis wrapping and make the trailing access-condition filter-query suffix optional. The returned RSS feed then includes access-restricted records, disclosing their title, author, publisher, place/year, shelfmark, URN, persistent identifier, and record link; the injection can also run count/oracle queries against the Solr index. No public exploit code is referenced in the available sources; the attack is low-complexity and requires no authentication or user interaction. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 23, 2026
Unauthenticated Solr query injection in the legacy RSS servlet (RssResolver, GET /rss/) of Goobi viewer-core prior to 26.05 lets an attacker alter the Solr query so that the trailing access-condition filter becomes optional, causing bibliographic metadata for access-restricted records to appear in the generated RSS feed. The exposed fields are limited to those the feed renders - title, author, publisher, place/year, shelfmark, URN, persistent identifier and record link - while full text is not stored in Solr and restricted thumbnails stay separately gated, so the practical impact is low-confidentiality disclosure plus count/oracle queries against the index. No public exploit code was identified at time of analysis; exploitation only yields sensitive results on instances that actually hold access-restricted records, and the vendor shipped a fix in 26.05 (tracked for patching this month by vuln.today prioritisation).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Goobi viewer-core to version 26.05 (https://github.com/intranda/goobi-viewer-core/releases/tag/v26.05), which contains the fixes in commits e8d987f8478b86559ef3ea236be0d86e08948f6b and fcdae14b06e99f3320a02d45a6be7fc6e5c69a6e; the advisory is at https://github.com/intranda/goobi-viewer-core/security/advisories/GHSA-763m-wjm9-6873. If upgrading cannot be scheduled immediately, the actionable compensating control is to block or disable the legacy GET /rss/ endpoint at the reverse proxy or in the servlet container, with the trade-off that any consumers of the old RSS feed lose that output and should be migrated to the validated GET /api/v1/records/rss endpoint. Restricting /rss/ to trusted networks or clients carries the same functional loss for public feed subscribers, and because the flaw is in query construction rather than in a configurable feature, no configuration toggle is described in the available sources that removes the injection while keeping the legacy servlet enabled.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Goobi viewer-core is a Java/Maven (io.goobi.viewer:viewer-core) web application that renders digitised holdings, using Apache Solr as its search backend. The legacy RssResolver servlet predates the REST API layer and passes user input straight into Solr query strings: the q parameter forms the main query body, wrapped only in literal parentheses, while filterQuery is handed to Solr directly as an fq. The access-condition suffix returned by SearchHelper.getAllSuffixes was concatenated onto that same main query body, so boolean operators injected through q (or filterQuery) can break out of the parenthesis wrapping and make the suffix optional - a query-structure injection rooted in missing input validation (CWE-20, also classified by the vendor as CWE-89/CWE-943). The upstream fix in commit e8d987f8 moves the access suffix into the filterQueries list as a separate fq instead of concatenating it onto the query body, and the current REST endpoint GET /api/v1/records/rss already applies validation the legacy servlet lacks. The trigger conditions are confirmed from the advisory: no authentication or non-default toggle is needed to reach the endpoint, and the limiting factor is data-dependent, namely whether the instance holds access-restricted records whose metadata can leak.

The Goobi viewer is a web application that allows digitised material to be displayed in a web browser. Prior to version 26.05, the legacy RSS servlet (RssResolver, GET /rss/) accepts the q and filterQuery parameters and concatenates them into Solr queries without validation. The servlet predates the REST API layer and lacks the input validation present in GET /api/v1/records/rss. q forms the main query body (wrapped only in literal parentheses); filterQuery is passed directly as a Solr fq. An unauthenticated attacker can inject Solr boolean operators to break out of the wrapping and render the trailing access-condition filter-query suffix optional, so that access-restricted records are included in the generated RSS feed. The q and filterQuery parameters are the same underlying vulnerability in the same servlet; q (the main query body) has the broader scope. This issue has been patched in version 26.05.
