1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation

The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated Devolutions Server account holding at least View permission on connections whose configuration includes add-ons containing stored passwords; requesting that connection's data returns the add-on properties unredacted. Exploitation is limited to existing authenticated users (no anonymous/unauthenticated path) and only yields secrets for connections the user can already view, and only applies to versions 2026.3.8.0 and earlier (fixed in 2026.3.10). No user interaction by a victim is needed, but the attacker must already possess valid low-privilege credentials.

Impact

This is a genuine but moderate-priority information-disclosure issue, not a critical emergency. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N = 6.5 Medium) indicates a network-reachable, low-complexity flaw that nonetheless REQUIRES an authenticated account (PR:L), bounding the attacker population to existing low-privilege users. All corroborating signals point the same low-urgency direction: CISA SSVC records Exploitation=none, Automatable=no, and Technical Impact=partial, and no EPSS score, KEV listing, or public POC was provided in the input (so: no public exploit identified at time of analysis). The only elevated metric is confidentiality (C:H), reflecting that the leaked data is sensitive credentials (add-on passwords). There is no conflict between signals - CVSS, SSVC, and the description all agree this is an authenticated insider-access authorization flaw rather than a remotely-automatable mass-exploitation threat. Note the input 'Authentication Bypass' tag conflicts with the actual nature of the bug (CWE-863 Incorrect Authorization, exploited BY an authenticated user), which should not be read as an unauthenticated bypass.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A legitimate low-privilege Devolutions Server user who has been granted only View permission on a connection requests that connection's data through the normal API/UI and receives the add-on properties with passwords returned in cleartext rather than redacted. The user thereby harvests credentials they were never authorized to see, enabling lateral movement using those recovered secrets. No public exploit code is identified, and exploitation requires low complexity (AC:L) but a pre-existing authenticated account (PR:L).

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 16, 2026

Incorrect authorization in Devolutions Server 2026.3.8.0 and earlier lets an authenticated user who holds only View permission on a connection retrieve stored add-on passwords, because the connection data returned to the client includes add-on properties unredacted rather than masked. Exploitation requires a pre-existing low-privilege account and only exposes secrets for connections that account can already view, so the impact is high-confidentiality but scoped to credentials stored in add-on properties; no public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and there is no confirmed active exploitation (CISA KEV). The vendor has released a fix, making this a genuine but moderate-priority information-disclosure issue rather than a critical emergency.

RemediationAI

Upgrade to Devolutions Server 2026.3.10 - the vendor-released fix for this issue (reported by DEVOLUTIONS under advisory DEVO-2026-0036, https://devolutions.net/security/advisories/DEVO-2026-0036/); per the EUVD range, all versions below 2026.3.10 should be treated as vulnerable, so patching rather than configuration tuning is the primary action. Where immediate upgrade is not possible, compensating controls with real trade-offs are: audit and remove stored passwords from add-on properties on sensitive connections (application functionality depending on those add-on credentials will break, and the values must be re-entered after patching), and tighten role assignments so that View permission on connections containing password-bearing add-ons is limited to users who genuinely need those secrets (this reduces the affected population but does not close the flaw for View-permitted users). Because exploitation requires valid low-privilege credentials and yields only secrets for connections the user can already see, monitoring for unusual bulk retrieval of connection data by low-privilege accounts is worthwhile, but it is a detective control and not a substitute for the 2026.3.10 upgrade. There is no vendor-released patch for versions prior to 2026.3.10 other than that upgrade path.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The root cause is CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization): Devolutions Server enforces redaction of sensitive fields when serializing connection configuration back to a requesting client, but that redaction logic is not applied consistently to add-on properties attached to a connection. Add-ons can carry their own stored credentials, including passwords, and when a user with View permission requests the connection's data, those add-on properties are returned in cleartext instead of being masked, effectively granting read access to secrets the user's role was never meant to expose. The issue sits in the server-side permission/redaction enforcement layer for connection and add-on objects rather than in cryptography or transport; the CPE vector (cpe:2.3:a:devolutions:server:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) reflects a version-range match against the product with no platform qualifiers. The CVSS vector CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N confirms the attack is network-reachable, needs low-privilege authentication (PR:L, so an authenticated rather than anonymous attacker), requires no victim interaction, and yields high confidentiality impact with no integrity or availability effect. ENISA's EUVD records the vulnerable range as Server 0 through versions below 2026.3.10.
