Exploitation Conditions

Requires an authenticated account that is a member of a shared n8n project (PR:L), and a specific state condition reflected by AT:P: a suspended agent-chat checkpoint belonging to another user must exist and be pending tool-call approval. The attacker exploits the agent chat resume endpoint by supplying an arbitrary run identifier in the request body, which the server accepts without verifying checkpoint ownership. Limiting factors: single-user or non-shared-project deployments have no victim to target; the attack only functions while a victim checkpoint is suspended and awaiting approval; and the attacker must already hold valid project-member credentials, so this is primarily a multi-tenant/shared-project insider risk rather than remote-unauthenticated exposure.

Impact

This is a moderate-severity authorization/IDOR flaw (CWE-639) rather than a critical remote-code-execution issue, and the available signals are internally consistent. The vendor-supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N) scores 6.1 and confirms a network-reachable but authenticated attack (PR:L = a valid, logged-in project member), with an attack requirement (AT:P) that reflects a real precondition: a suspended agent checkpoint must already exist and be pending approval. Impact is skewed toward confidentiality (VC:H - reading other members' private agent conversations) with lower integrity/availability effects (VI:L/VA:L - approving pending tool calls and writing results back). No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public POC are present in the provided intelligence, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis; the realistic risk is insider/multi-tenant abuse by an already-authenticated project member rather than mass internet-wide exploitation. No signals conflict: the authenticated requirement, the lack of KEV/EPSS, and the IDOR nature all point to a 'real but scoped' issue that matters most in shared/multi-tenant n8n deployments. Note the AT:P attack requirement is not representable in CVSS 3.1, which can make a 3.1 translation look slightly more severe than warranted.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An authenticated member of a shared n8n project uses the project-scoped agent-chat endpoints to enumerate and read another member's private AI-agent conversations, then submits a resume request supplying the victim's suspended-run identifier. Because the endpoint never verifies the checkpoint belongs to the caller, the attacker approves the victim's pending tool calls, forcing those tools to execute and writing the output into the victim's conversation. No public proof-of-concept is identified in the provided data; exploitation requires only a valid low-privileged project account and an existing suspended checkpoint.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 15, 2026

Authorization bypass in n8n's agent chat resume endpoint allows an authenticated member of a shared n8n project to read other members' private agent conversations and approve their pending tool calls, causing those tools to execute and write results back into the victim's conversation. The flaw affects n8n releases before 2.41.4 and 2.42.0 and is rooted in an insecure direct object reference (CWE-639): the resume endpoint accepts a run identifier from the request body without verifying that the referenced suspended checkpoint belongs to the caller. Exploitation requires a valid project-member account (PR:L) plus the stateful condition that another user's agent-chat checkpoint is currently suspended and awaiting tool-call approval (AT:P), so this is primarily a multi-tenant or shared-project insider risk; no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis, and the assessed severity is moderate (CVSS 3.1 base 6.1, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N).

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade to n8n 2.41.4 (for the 2.41.x line) or 2.42.0 (for the 2.42.x line), following the vendor advisory at https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-p3pg-xw4f-m72c; there is no indication in the available data of a released patch for branches older than 2.41.x, so instances on legacy lines should be migrated to a fixed release. Where immediate upgrading is not feasible, the most effective compensating control is to narrow the precondition rather than rely on generic hardening: remove untrusted or unneeded accounts from shared n8n projects so that only fully trusted operators share a project, since the attack requires project membership plus a suspended checkpoint belonging to another member. A second option is to disable or deprecate the agent chat tool-approval workflow (and any agent workflows that suspend for human approval) for multi-member projects until the fix is applied, accepting the operational cost that agent tool calls must then be pre-approved or auto-executed outside n8n. Restricting network access to the n8n web/API interface to trusted networks reduces the pool of project members who could reach the resume endpoint at all, but it does not address the insider case and breaks remote user access. Finally, monitor n8n audit and application logs for resume calls whose run identifiers do not match the caller's own conversations, and for tool executions appearing in conversations their owner did not approve, as a detection measure while remediation is in progress.

Technical ContextAI · show details

n8n is a workflow-automation platform in which users collaborate inside shared projects and build AI agent workflows. Agent chat supports long-running tool calls: when a tool invocation needs human approval, the execution is persisted as a suspended checkpoint keyed by a run identifier, and the client later resumes it via the agent chat resume endpoint. CVE-2026-110841 is a classic CWE-639 Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key: the resume handler trusts the run identifier supplied in the request body and looks up the checkpoint without confirming that the checkpoint belongs to the requesting principal or that the caller has any rights over the conversation it belongs to. Because project-scoped endpoints also allow listing and reading conversations within the project, an attacker holding ordinary project membership can enumerate run identifiers, retrieve another member's private agent conversation content (confidentiality impact rated High), and submit an approval for a pending tool call. That approval causes the tool to execute server-side and its results to be written into the victim's conversation, giving a limited integrity impact on the workflow's data and the agent's state. Note that CVSS 4.0 AT:P and the assessed v3.1 vector agree that the attack is network-reachable, low-complexity, unauthenticated only in the transport sense but requires a low-privileged authenticated account, and requires the specific precondition of an existing suspended checkpoint pending approval.

DescriptionCVE.org

n8n before 2.41.4 and 2.42.0 contains an authorization bypass in the agent chat resume endpoint, which accepts a run identifier from the request body without verifying that the suspended checkpoint belongs to the caller. Authenticated project members can list and read other members' private agent conversations through project-scoped endpoints, then approve their pending tool calls, causing the tools to execute and write results into the victim's conversation.
