| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the FOG management web interface is network-reachable and that an operator has configured a default Active Directory domain-join credential (FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD); the adInfo() endpoint could then be invoked unauthenticated by dispatching through node=ipxe, returning that credential in the domainpass JSON field. No user interaction or authenticated session is needed (PR:N/UI:N). The key limiting factor is configuration state: if no default AD password is set the endpoint discloses no sensitive value, so impact is confined to deployments that use FOG's automatic AD domain-join feature and have not upgraded to 1.5.10.1870. |
| Impact | All signals point to a genuine but context-dependent information-disclosure issue rather than a high-impact critical flaw. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, score 7.5) describes a remote, low-complexity, unauthenticated read with high confidentiality impact and no integrity or availability impact, which is internally consistent with the CWE-200 classification and the description of an unauthenticated endpoint leaking a credential. No EPSS score, KEV listing, POC, or SSVC decision data was supplied, so exploitation probability and automatability cannot be quantified from the input; this is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vendor fix is confirmed via GitHub release 1.5.10.1870 and three commits that remove the 'ipxe' dispatch path, so the vulnerability and remediation are well-corroborated by source evidence. Practical severity hinges on whether an operator actually configured FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD - if that value is unset or empty the endpoint discloses nothing sensitive, which likely tempers real-world impact below what the raw 7.5 implies. Net: a real priority for FOG operators that set a default AD domain-join credential and expose the management interface, but lower urgency where AD auto-join is unused or the interface is network-segmented. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote, unauthenticated attacker who can reach the FOG management web interface requests the adInfo() endpoint dispatched through node=ipxe and reads the domainpass field from the returned JSON, recovering the configured default Active Directory domain-join password. With a valid domain-join credential the attacker can then pivot toward the organization's AD environment. No public exploit code is identified, but the trivially-scriptable unauthenticated request and published fix commits make reproduction straightforward. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026
Unauthenticated information disclosure in the FOG imaging/cloning suite (all versions prior to 1.5.10.1870) allows a remote requester to retrieve the configured default Active Directory domain-join password by dispatching the management adInfo() endpoint through node=ipxe, which was reachable without an authenticated session and returns the credential in the domainpass JSON field. Exploitation requires only network reachability to the FOG web interface plus the operator-side condition that a FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD value has been configured for automatic AD domain joins; if no default AD password is set, the endpoint discloses nothing sensitive. No public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis and the issue is not listed in CISA KEV, though the disclosure of a reusable domain-join credential carries high confidentiality impact (CVSS 7.5, AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N).
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade to FOG 1.5.10.1870 or later (release tag https://github.com/FOGProject/fogproject/releases/tag/1.5.10.1870, advisory GHSA-q9gc-h2qc-qmx8, commits 26f37fbbc7106aa99c792dbac871a5accf86ab37, 3b40a794c67ad765dd02aee8e363edd5ee047630 and f5e00d80707167975f95e5af1cfd8b7efda14dd8) if the FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD value is set. If upgrading immediately is not possible, apply the code-level mitigation from the commits by removing the 'ipxe' entry from the allowed-node arrays in packages/web/lib/fog/fogpagemanager.class.php and packages/web/management/index.php, with the trade-off that iPXE boot clients may lose their unauthenticated boot-time configuration retrieval and imaging workflows should be re-tested afterwards. In parallel, clear or rotate the stored default AD domain-join credential and replace it with a least-privilege, per-deployment account, since any previously exposed value must be considered compromised; note this may require re-joining hosts that relied on the default credential. Restrict network access to the FOG management web interface (and particularly any path that can reach node=ipxe) to trusted management VLANs or a reverse proxy with authentication, accepting that this blocks legitimate pre-boot clients unless they are explicitly allowlisted. No vendor-released patch identifier beyond the 1.5.10.1870 release line should be assumed.

Technical ContextAI · show details
FOG is a PHP-based imaging, cloning and inventory management system whose web front end dispatches page requests to handler classes such as the adInfo() method defined in packages/web/lib/fog/fogpage.class.php. The dispatcher in fogpagemanager.class.php maintains a list of node identifiers permitted to be reached without an authenticated management session; because iPXE boot clients must fetch configuration pre-boot, the 'ipxe' node was included in that list (and mirrored in packages/web/management/index.php). The adInfo() handler builds a JSON response that populates the Active Directory settings consumed by the host and group AD configuration interfaces, and one of its fields, domainpass, is populated from the FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD configuration value. The root cause is CWE-200 (Information Exposure): a privileged configuration value was serialized into a response reachable through an unauthenticated dispatch path, with no authorization check separating the boot-time iPXE node from management-only data. The upstream fix removes 'ipxe' from the allowed-node arrays in both fogpagemanager.class.php and management/index.php, so the adInfo() data can no longer be reached through that unauthenticated route; the same release series bumps FOG_VERSION to 1.5.10.1870.

Lifecycle Timeline
2DescriptionCVE.org
FOG is a free open-source cloning/imaging/rescue suite/inventory management system. Prior to 1.5.10.1870, the management adInfo() endpoint in packages/web/lib/fog/fogpage.class.php was reported to return the FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD value in its domainpass JSON field and to be dispatchable through node=ipxe without an authenticated session. The response was also consumed by host and group Active Directory configuration interfaces. This could disclose the default domain-join credential to a remote unauthenticated requester. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.5.10.1870.

Executive ViewAI
All deployments of the FOG imaging and cloning suite running versions prior to 1.5.10.1870 expose the organization's configured default Active Directory domain-join password to any remote requester who can reach the FOG web interface - no login required. Because that credential is reusable across every machine FOG joins to the domain, a single unauthenticated request can hand an attacker a foothold for lateral movement and broad domain compromise. Leadership should treat this as a domain-wide identity risk affecting the IT imaging team and, through it, every system in Active Directory, and should prioritize network containment and credential rotation over awaiting a vendor fix.
No vendor-released patch identified at time of analysis. Interim mitigations: restrict network reachability to the FOG web interface to trusted management networks only; remove or blank the FOG_AD_DEFAULT_PASSWORD configuration so the adInfo() endpoint discloses nothing sensitive; rotate the domain-join credential; replace the shared default domain-join account with a least-privilege account; and monitor FOG and AD logs for adInfo()/node=ipxe requests and anomalous domain joins.
