DescriptionCVE.org

An OS command injection vulnerability exists in AVTECH DVR, NVR, and IP camera devices within the adcommand.cgi endpoint, which interfaces with the ActionD daemon. Authenticated users can invoke the DoShellCmd operation, passing arbitrary input via the strCmd parameter. This input is executed directly by the system shell without sanitation allowing attackers to execute commands as the root user.

Analysis

An OS command injection vulnerability exists in AVTECH DVR, NVR, and IP camera devices within the adcommand.cgi endpoint, which interfaces with the ActionD daemon. Authenticated users can invoke the DoShellCmd operation, passing arbitrary input via the strCmd parameter. This input is executed directly by the system shell without sanitation allowing attackers to execute commands as the root user.

Technical ContextAI

Command injection allows an attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands on the host system through a vulnerable application that passes user input to system shells. This vulnerability is classified as Improper Input Validation (CWE-20).

RemediationAI

Avoid passing user input to system commands. Use language-specific APIs instead of shell commands. If unavoidable, use strict input validation and escaping.
