Vulnerability Assessment
| Exploitation Conditions | Not a default-configuration remote flaw: the UAF path is reached only when TCP request-socket migration is in use (SO_REUSEPORT listeners with reuseport/BPF migration, which depends on the non-default net.ipv4.tcp_migrate_req sysctl being enabled) AND a socket migration attempt fails specifically at inet_ehash_insert() in reqsk_timer_handler(), leaving the new reqsk freed with its timer not stopped. The trigger is thus a race in the original reqsk's timer context against a migration-failure window - described in the source as a potential/regression condition, not a guaranteed-controllable one. Limiting factors: requires the migration feature to be enabled (non-default), requires forcing the ehash-insert failure, and requires winning the timer race (reflected as AC:H). No authentication is required per PR:N, but the configuration dependency substantially narrows the realistically exploitable population. |
| Impact | Signals point to a genuine but non-urgent kernel memory-safety issue rather than an active-exploitation emergency. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.1 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N, full C:H/I:H/A:H), so it is remotely reachable without authentication but carries AC:H, reflecting that the use-after-free depends on a TCP socket-migration failure window that is not reliably attacker-controlled. No EPSS probability was supplied in the input, there is no CISA KEV listing, and no PoC or exploit reference is present, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_week' (not act_now/emergency), which is consistent with a high-severity-but-no-observed-exploitation profile: a real priority to schedule, not a drop-everything incident. Note the conflict worth verifying: the 'Information Disclosure' tag understates the issue, since the CVSS vector and the UAF nature indicate full integrity/availability impact (potential kernel memory corruption / code execution), not merely disclosure. Also, exploitation realistically requires a non-default socket-migration configuration, which further lowers practical risk below what the raw 8.1 suggests. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A remote attacker repeatedly opens TCP connections against a listener that uses SO_REUSEPORT with BPF-driven request-socket migration, driving a migration attempt that fails at inet_ehash_insert() so the new request socket is freed while its timer is still pending. Racing that window, the attacker causes the stale timer to fire against the freed reqsk, yielding a use-after-free in kernel context that can corrupt kernel memory. No public PoC or exploit code is present in the provided data, and the AC:H rating reflects the narrow, migration-failure-dependent race required to trigger it reliably. |

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel TCP request-socket path (reqsk_timer_handler) can corrupt kernel memory, giving a remote attacker a possible route to code execution or sensitive-data disclosure on affected kernels. Per the assessed vector (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N) no authentication is needed, but the flaw is reachable only when TCP request-socket migration is enabled through the non-default net.ipv4.tcp_migrate_req sysctl and a reuseport/BPF migration attempt fails at inet_ehash_insert(), which narrows the exposed population considerably. A vendor patch is available as upstream stable commit 97c8a3c1f73d828de43a5a88e8a9a143efb2b661; no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no CISA KEV listing is present, so this is a genuine but non-urgent kernel memory-safety issue rather than an active-exploitation emergency.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor kernel update that carries upstream stable commit 97c8a3c1f73d828de43a5a88e8a9a143efb2b661 (https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/97c8a3c1f73d828de43a5a88e8a9a143efb2b661), confirming via the commit hash rather than a version string, because a specific released kernel version containing the fix is not independently confirmed in the provided data; the change stops the new reqsk's timer with timer_delete_sync() before the no_ownership: path frees it. If the update cannot be deployed immediately, the practical compensating control is to disable the exposed feature by setting net.ipv4.tcp_migrate_req=0 (it is non-default), which removes the request-socket migration path in reqsk_timer_handler() entirely; the trade-off is loss of reuseport/BPF-driven request migration, i.e. reduced load distribution and connection failover across SO_REUSEPORT listener groups, so it should be scoped to hosts that actually depend on that behavior. Consult the NVD record at https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-99270 and EUVD-2026-115811 for any additional vendor guidance.

Technical ContextAI · show details
The flaw sits in the Linux TCP SYN-queue machinery. A request socket (reqsk) is a lightweight object created on receipt of a SYN and armed with its own timer; reqsk_timer_handler() runs in that timer's context and, when a request socket is migrated between listening sockets (the SO_REUSEPORT reuseport/BPF request-migration feature gated by net.ipv4.tcp_migrate_req), calls inet_ehash_insert() to place the new reqsk in the established hash table. If that insertion fails, the handler jumps to the no_ownership: label and immediately releases the new reqsk with __reqsk_free(), but the new reqsk's timer is not stopped first - a window that the description attributes to a regression introduced by the cited commit 83fccfc3940c4a2db90fd7e7079f5b465cd8c6af, after which the timer could be missed and the freed object later touched (use-after-free). The upstream fix, made from the original reqsk's timer context, passes false to __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() so that timer_delete_sync() is safely invoked against the new reqsk before it is freed. No CWE identifier is assigned in the supplied data; the defect class is a use-after-free (CWE-416 family). The precise conditions that force the ehash insertion failure are not described in the available sources, and the assessed high attack complexity reflects the requirement to both enable the non-default migration feature and hit the migration-failure/timer window.

3DescriptionCVE.org
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
tcp: Fix potential UAF in reqsk_timer_handler().
When TCP socket migration fails at inet_ehash_insert() in reqsk_timer_handler(), we jump to the no_ownership: label and free the new reqsk immediately with __reqsk_free().
Thus, we must stop the new reqsk's timer before jumping to the label, but the timer might be missed since the cited commit, resulting in UAF.
As we are in the original reqsk's timer context, we can safely call timer_delete_sync() for the new reqsk.
Let's pass false to __inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() to stop the new reqsk's timer.
Executive ViewAI
A high-severity memory corruption flaw in the Linux kernel's TCP request-socket handling could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute code or disclose sensitive data on affected systems. However, exploitation requires a non-default kernel setting (tcp_migrate_req) and specific failure conditions, significantly narrowing the exposed population and reducing immediate business risk.
Apply vendor patch.
