MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires a valid authenticated ArcadeDB account (PR:L) with network reach to the instance, and the AI chat endpoints exposing the query_database tool must be enabled/reachable. Exploitation is only meaningful when per-type or per-bucket ACLs are actually configured to restrict certain types/buckets from the attacker - those denials are what the tool silently no-ops. Limiting factors: authentication is mandatory (not a remote-unauthenticated bug), the AI assistant surface must be deployed, and impact is confined to reading otherwise-denied data (no write or availability effect). Fixed in ArcadeDB 26.9.1. |
| Impact | This is a genuine but bounded authorization flaw, not a high-CVSS-low-real-risk case. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N) and CWE-862 describe an authenticated network-reachable missing-authorization bug: the query_database tool exposed via ArcadeDB's AI chat endpoints fails to bind the authenticated principal to DatabaseContext, so per-type/per-bucket ACL checks silently no-op. Impact is confidentiality-only (VC:H, VI:N/VA:N) - attackers read data they are explicitly denied at the per-type level but cannot write or degrade availability. No EPSS score, no CISA KEV listing, and no public proof-of-concept were provided, so this is no public exploit identified at time of analysis; exploitation is authenticated (PR:L) and gated on the AI chat feature being enabled and on ACLs actually being configured to restrict data. The 'Authentication Bypass' tag conflicts with the underlying facts - the attacker is already an authenticated principal and bypasses per-type authorization, so this is an access-control/authorization bypass, not authentication bypass. Priority is moderate: real data-exfiltration primitive that defeats intended tenant/type isolation, but limited to confidentiality, requiring valid credentials and an enabled AI chat surface. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated low-privilege ArcadeDB user who is denied direct read access to a sensitive type or bucket opens the AI chat assistant and prompts it to run queries against those restricted types through the query_database tool. Because the tool never binds the principal to DatabaseContext, the per-type/per-bucket ACL checks no-op and the assistant returns data the user could never retrieve through normal query endpoints. No public exploit code is identified, but the technique requires only crafted natural-language prompts, so exploitation complexity is low. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Sep 18, 2026
An authorization bypass in ArcadeDB before 26.9.1 lets authenticated users read data they are explicitly denied at the per-type and per-bucket level by steering the AI chat assistant's query_database tool, which executes queries without binding the authenticated principal to DatabaseContext so ACL checks silently pass. Exploitation requires a valid ArcadeDB account, network reach to the instance, and the AI chat endpoints exposing the tool to be enabled or reachable; impact is limited to unauthorized read of otherwise-restricted types and buckets, with no write or availability effect. The flaw is rated 7.1 (CVSS 4.0 AV:N/AC:L/PR:L, independent assessment agrees at CVSS 3.1 C:H/I:N/A:N), a vendor fix is available in 26.9.1, and no public exploit code or confirmed active exploitation was identified at time of analysis.
RemediationAI
Upgrade ArcadeDB to 26.9.1 or later, which is the vendor-released fix for this issue and restores principal binding into DatabaseContext for the query_database tool. Where upgrading is not immediately possible, disable or restrict access to the AI chat endpoints that expose query_database, or disable the tool entirely - the trade-off being loss of AI-assisted querying functionality. Because exploitation requires a valid account, tightening who can authenticate to the instance and auditing accounts with broad read access reduces exposure but does not fix the underlying ACL no-op. Network-level restriction of the AI chat surface to trusted clients is another compensating control, though it does not address an already-authenticated insider. Verify remediation against the vendor advisory at https://github.com/ArcadeData/arcadedb/security/advisories/GHSA-chrr-vr3p-crcc and the VulnCheck advisory at https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/arcadedb-before-26.9.1-acl-bypass-via-query-database-tool, and review logs for query_database invocations against restricted types or buckets to detect prior abuse.

Technical ContextAI · show details
ArcadeDB is a multi-model database (graph, document, key-value, and vector) that layers ACLs at the database, type, and bucket level. The AI chat surface exposes a query_database tool that forwards natural-language prompts into database queries. Root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the tool executes queries without binding the authenticated principal into DatabaseContext, so the per-type and per-bucket authorization callbacks see no effective user and no-op instead of denying access. As a result, ACL denials that the normal query endpoints enforce are skipped for this code path, and an authenticated principal can retrieve types or buckets they are supposed to be denied. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:arcadedata:arcadedb:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:* reflected by EUVD as arcadedb 0 <26.9.1 confirms all releases prior to 26.9.1 are affected. The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:N/VA:N) and the independent CVSS 3.1 vector both describe a network-reachable, low-privilege, confidentiality-only defect with no integrity or availability impact.

2DescriptionCVE.org
ArcadeDB before 26.9.1 contains an access control bypass vulnerability in the query_database tool exposed through the AI chat endpoints. The tool executes queries without binding the authenticated principal to DatabaseContext, causing per-type and per-bucket ACL checks to silently no-op and allowing authenticated users to read data they are explicitly denied at the per-type level. Attackers can prompt the AI assistant to execute queries against restricted types or buckets to retrieve sensitive data that would be rejected through normal query endpoints.

Executive ViewAI
ArcadeDB versions prior to 26.9.1 contain an authorization bypass in the AI chat assistant's query_database tool that allows any authenticated user to read database types and buckets they are explicitly denied, exposing potentially sensitive data to internal accounts that should not have access. This undermines per-type and per-bucket access controls - a core least-privilege safeguard - creating insider-risk, data-governance, and potential compliance exposure for organizations using ArcadeDB as a system of record. No public exploit identified at time of analysis, and a vendor-released patch: 26.9.1 is available.
