DescriptionCVE.org

Open WebUI is an extensible, feature-rich, and user-friendly self-hosted AI platform. From 0.5.0 until 0.11.1, the message-chain reconstruction helper in backend/open_webui/utils/misc.py advanced through a chat history by map key but tracked visited entries using each message body's optional id field. An authenticated user could store id-less messages in a parent cycle and trigger a non-terminating walk that blocked the async event loop, grew memory until termination, and remained persistent across process restarts. This issue is fixed in version 0.11.1.

AnalysisAI

Infinite-loop denial-of-service in Open WebUI 0.5.0-0.11.0 allows any authenticated user to permanently crash the backend service by storing id-less messages in a cyclic parent chain. The flaw in get_message_list (backend/open_webui/utils/misc.py) caused the chat-history traversal to never terminate, blocking the async event loop and consuming memory until the process died - with the condition persisting across restarts until an operator manually removes the offending messages or upgrades. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires a valid authenticated session with at least the default user role (PR:L per CVSS); no administrative or elevated privileges are needed. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 6.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) accurately reflects the attack surface: the vulnerability is network-reachable, requires only a valid login, has no complexity barrier, and delivers a high availability impact with zero confidentiality or integrity consequence. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade Open WebUI to version 0.11.1 or later; the patched release is available at https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/releases/tag/v0.11.1 and the fixing commit is 5c79ccc9e5c9efc2bc024d8f0b9757652ece929a. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
