Open WebUI is an extensible, feature-rich, and user-friendly self-hosted AI platform. From 0.10.0 until 0.11.1, DELETE /api/v1/chats/{id}/messages/{message_id} used the chat-history deletion helper in backend/open_webui/models/chats.py to follow childrenIds without recording visited message identifiers. An authenticated user could store a cyclic chat tree and delete a message, causing a synchronous infinite loop on the server request loop that blocked every user's requests until the process was killed. This issue is fixed in version 0.11.1.
AnalysisAI
Denial-of-service in Open WebUI versions 0.10.0 through 0.11.0 allows any authenticated user to permanently block all server-side request processing by submitting a cyclic chat message tree and then triggering the message-deletion endpoint. The DELETE /api/v1/chats/{id}/messages/{message_id} API delegates to a Python helper that traverses childrenIds in a while loop without recording visited node identifiers, entering an infinite loop that occupies the server's request thread indefinitely until the process is forcibly killed. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires a valid authenticated session on the target Open WebUI instance (PR:L per CVSS), meaning the attacker must hold or obtain at least one user-level credential. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 score of 6.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) is an accurate reflection of the attack surface: network-reachable, no special conditions, authenticated but low-privilege, and producing full availability loss with no data compromise. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Upgrade to Open WebUI version 0.11.1 or later, confirmed by the tagged release at https://github.com/open-webui/open-webui/releases/tag/v0.11.1 and the corresponding fix commit b933292d63d12be3fd1416fe55519ddc7aa336bc. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
