1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation

The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up.

Exploitation Conditions

Requires a valid Red Hat OpenShift AI dashboard login at any privilege level - no administrative role, group membership, or special permission is needed beyond basic dashboard authentication (CVSS PR:L). The target cluster must have NVIDIA NIM serving configured and the Kubernetes Secrets (apiKeySecret, nimPullSecret) must exist in the cluster; deployments without NIM integration are not vulnerable. The attacker must know or enumerate the Secret resource name, which may be discoverable through dashboard UI behavior or other API responses. No special network position is required (AV:N) and no user interaction is needed (UI:N). Unauthenticated external access to the route is not possible - a valid dashboard session is the minimum entry requirement.

Impact

The CVSS 6.5 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N) accurately captures the threat profile: a valid dashboard login is the only prerequisite, exploitation is low-complexity and fully automatable, and the confidentiality impact is high given the sensitivity of NVIDIA NGC credentials. The asymmetric gating - create and delete operations are admin-restricted, the read path is not - strongly suggests an inadvertent authorization omission rather than a design choice, making this straightforward to exploit once discovered. The stolen NGC API key can be used to pull licensed NIM containers, consume NGC compute quota, or pivot to other NVIDIA cloud services under the victim organization's billing identity; the pull secret enables unauthorized access to private container image registries. Even a mid-sized municipal IT team in koszalin operating OpenShift AI for inference workloads should treat this as a meaningful credential-exposure risk warranting prompt rotation and patching. EPSS data is absent from the provided intelligence, and no CISA KEV listing or public exploit code has been identified at time of analysis; however, the low complexity and network vector mean exploitation could be operationalized quickly by any authenticated dashboard user who discovers the route.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

A data scientist or other low-privileged OpenShift AI dashboard user issues a GET request to /api/nim-serving/apiKeySecret (or the pull secret equivalent), which the dashboard backend proxies using its elevated service account. The full Kubernetes Secret object is returned in the JSON response, exposing the NGC API key and image pull token in cleartext. The attacker then uses the NGC API key to authenticate against NVIDIA's cloud services or pull NIM container images under the victim organization's account, with no public exploit code required - only a standard authenticated HTTP call.

AnalysisAIv1 – Sep 07, 2026

Unauthenticated-read path exposure in the odh-dashboard component of Red Hat OpenShift AI allows any valid dashboard user to retrieve full Kubernetes Secret objects - including the cluster NVIDIA NGC API key (apiKeySecret) and NIM image pull secret (nimPullSecret) - via GET /api/nim-serving/:nimResource without an authorization check. The route uses the dashboard's elevated service account to proxy Kubernetes API calls, bypassing the admin-gating that protects the equivalent create and delete operations on the same NIM credentials. Affected organizations risk unauthorized access to NVIDIA NGC cloud services and private container registries under their accounts. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, and the vulnerability is not listed in CISA KEV.

RemediationAI

Consult the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-86332 and the Bugzilla tracker at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2529287 for a confirmed patched release - no specific fix version is available in the provided intelligence. As an immediate compensating control, rotate the NVIDIA NGC API key and NIM image pull secret for any affected cluster and audit GET /api/nim-serving/* access logs for unexpected callers. Restricting OpenShift AI dashboard access to the minimum necessary user population reduces the attack surface while awaiting a patch. An ingress-layer network policy or API gateway rule that limits /api/nim-serving/ to admin-role sessions could block exploitation but may disrupt legitimate NIM serving workflows for non-admin users and should be validated in a staging environment before production deployment.

Technical ContextAI · show details

The affected component is odh-dashboard, the backend-for-frontend server embedded in Red Hat OpenShift AI (RHOAI), covered by CPE cpe:2.3:a:red_hat:red_hat_openshift_ai_(rhoai):*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*. The API route GET /api/nim-serving/:nimResource acts as a privileged Kubernetes proxy: it uses the dashboard service account - which holds cluster-level Secret read permissions - to fetch Secret objects from the Kubernetes API and returns the full object, including the cleartext .data map, directly to the HTTP caller. The Secrets in question hold NVIDIA NGC API keys used to authenticate against NVIDIA's AI cloud services and NIM image pull secrets used to access private container registries for NVIDIA Inference Microservices containers. Root cause is CWE-862 (Missing Authorization): the route executes the Kubernetes fetch without verifying whether the authenticated dashboard user has authorization to view those credentials, despite the corresponding mutating operations (create, delete) being correctly gated to admin roles. CWE-522 (Insufficiently Protected Credentials) also applies because the full Secret payload is serialized and returned without redaction. This flaw is architecturally distinct from CVE-2026-5483 (service-account token exposed in the Kubernetes client response wrapper on the same route) and CVE-2026-16456 (cross-namespace confused deputy in odh-model-controller).

DescriptionCVE.org

A flaw was found in odh-dashboard in Red Hat OpenShift AI. The backend-for-frontend route GET /api/nim-serving/:nimResource reads Kubernetes Secrets using the dashboard service account and returns the full Secret object, including .data, without an authorization check. Any authenticated dashboard user can retrieve the cluster NVIDIA NGC API key Secret (apiKeySecret) and the NIM image pull secret (nimPullSecret). Create and delete of the same NIM credential are admin-gated; the read path is not. This is missing authorization (CWE-862) and insufficiently protected credentials (CWE-522). It is distinct from CVE-2026-5483 (service-account token leak in the Kubernetes client response wrapper on the same route) and CVE-2026-16456 (odh-model-controller cross-namespace confused deputy).
