DescriptionCVE.org

A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in GStreamer's RTSP support library. The vulnerability occurs while parsing an Authorization or WWW-Authenticate header that uses Digest authentication. Specially crafted whitespace placement around a parameter's terminator can cause an internal length calculation to underflow, leading to a crash of the process parsing the header. On an RTSP server this can be triggered by a remote, unauthenticated attacker sending a single malformed request when the server has authentication enabled; the same flaw can also be triggered against an RTSP client by a malicious or compromised RTSP server. Successful exploitation results in a denial of service (application crash) and has no confirmed impact on confidentiality or integrity.

AnalysisAI

NULL pointer dereference in GStreamer's RTSP support library (gst-plugins-base) crashes any process that parses a Digest authentication header containing specially crafted whitespace, resulting in a denial-of-service condition. The flaw is bidirectional: an unauthenticated remote attacker can crash an RTSP server by sending a single malformed request when Digest authentication is enabled, and a malicious or compromised RTSP server can crash an RTSP client using the same technique. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Server-side exploitation requires the target RTSP server to have Digest authentication enabled (i.e., the server returns a WWW-Authenticate: Digest ... … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor CVSS of 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H) accurately reflects the server-side attack: a single unauthenticated network request suffices to crash the target process, making exploitation trivially automatable with no preconditions beyond network reachability. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Apply the upstream GStreamer security patch once MR https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer-security/-/merge_requests/120 is merged and a tagged release is available; a specific patched release version is not confirmed from the provided data, so monitor the upstream repository and the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-85150 for an official fix version. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
