Local s390 KVM path (AV:L), depends on an unforced allocation failure (AC:H), needs privilege to run zPCI passthrough (PR:L); NULL deref causes only a host crash, so C:N/I:N/A:H.

vuln.today treats the vendor’s rating as authoritative. A higher third-party CVSS (e.g. CISA-ADP) is shown for transparency but does not drive the headline severity.

DescriptionCVE.org

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

KVM: s390: pci: Fix NULL dereference on AIBV allocation failure

The airq_iv_create() can return NULL on failure, but the return value was never checked. If it fails, zdev->aibv will be NULL and fail when dereferenced in kvm_zpci_set_airq(). Add a NULL check and free the previously allocated AISB bit and zdev->aisb on failure.

AnalysisAI

Denial-of-service in the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem on IBM Z (s390) mainframes stems from an unchecked airq_iv_create() return value in the zPCI adaptive-interrupt path. When AIBV allocation fails, zdev->aibv is left NULL and later dereferenced in kvm_zpci_set_airq(), crashing the host kernel. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an s390 (IBM Z) host running KVM with zPCI device passthrough configured for a guest, and it only triggers when airq_iv_create() fails to allocate the AIBV - i.e. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The supplied CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H = 9.3) substantially overstates real-world risk and internally conflicts with the described defect: a NULL pointer dereference yields a kernel crash (availability impact), not the confidentiality/integrity compromise the C:H/I:H claims - and the 'Information Disclosure' tag is likewise unsupported by the description. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Vendor-released patch: upgrade to a fixed stable kernel - 6.1.183, 6.6.151, 6.12.103, 6.18.44, 7.1.8, or 7.2, whichever matches your release branch - and reboot into the patched kernel. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Linux systems running KVM on IBM Z (s390) architecture and confirm their current kernel versions. …
