DescriptionCVE.org

Grav before 2.0.16 allows sandboxed Twig templates to access sensitive User fields through allow-listed offsetGet() and offsetexists() methods that lack field filtering. Attackers with page-edit permissions can call offsetGet() on User objects to extract hashed passwords and 2FA secrets, enabling offline password cracking and authentication bypass.

AnalysisAI

Credential extraction in Grav CMS before 2.0.16 allows authenticated users with page-edit permissions to read hashed passwords and two-factor authentication secrets from User objects via insufficiently filtered Twig template sandbox methods. The allow-listed offsetGet() and offsetExists() methods on User objects expose sensitive fields that should be restricted within the sandboxed template context, enabling offline password cracking and subsequent authentication bypass. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated session with page-edit permissions in the Grav CMS - this is not a default anonymous or low-privilege role but a content-authoring role that must be explicitly granted by an administrator. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The supplied CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N, score 8.7) conflicts directly with the CVE description, which states exploitation requires page-edit permissions - a non-default, authenticated role. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with a legitimate or compromised Grav account holding page-edit permissions creates or edits a page containing a malicious Twig template that calls offsetGet('password') or offsetGet('twofa_secret') on the current or target User object. The sandboxed template renders the sensitive field values, which the attacker captures via the page output. …
Remediation Upgrade Grav to version 2.0.16 or later, which applies field-level filtering to the allow-listed offsetGet() and offsetExists() methods in the Twig sandbox, preventing access to sensitive User fields. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, inventory all Grav CMS installations to identify versions running before 2.0.16 and document which user accounts hold page-editing permissions to determine exposure scope. …
