A buffer overflow in the API endpoint of HPE Networking EdgeConnect SD-WAN Gateways allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying host, resulting in full operating-system compromise of the appliance. Multiple maintenance trains are affected — 9.4.0.0 through 9.4.8.2, 9.5.0.0 through 9.5.8.1, 9.6.0.0 through 9.6.3.1, and the 9.7.0.0 release. The vendor's own CVSS rating is 8.1 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N), reflecting that exploitation is unauthenticated but gated by preconditions outside the attacker's control; no public exploit code or CISA KEV listing was identified at time of analysis.

DescriptionCVE.org
Buffer overflow vulnerabilities exist in the API endpoint of HPE Networking EdgeConnect SD-WAN Gateways that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to run arbitrary commands on the underlying host if certain preconditions outside of the attacker's control are met. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system leading to complete system compromise.

Attack Technique
A buffer overflow occurs when a program writes more data to a memory buffer than it was allocated to hold, causing the excess data to spill into adjacent memory regions.
