DescriptionNVD

In Splunk Enterprise versions below 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, and 9.4.14, a user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles could bypass Search Processing Language (SPL) safeguards for risky commands through the Job Details dashboard. The injected SPL could run using the permissions of an authenticated user who opens a crafted Job Details dashboard link. This could allow access to all relevant data and affect system integrity within those permissions. The vulnerability is possible because the Job Details dashboard does not correctly neutralize a caller-supplied search identifier before placing it into SPL searches. The vulnerability requires the attacker to phish the user by tricking them into opening the crafted link. The user who does not hold the "admin" or "power" Splunk roles should not be able to exploit the vulnerability at will. For more information see About jobs and job management (https://help.splunk.com/en/splunk-enterprise/search/search-manual/10.4/manage-jobs/about-jobs-and-job-management) in the Splunk documentation.

AnalysisAI

SPL injection in Splunk Enterprise's Job Details dashboard enables a low-privileged authenticated attacker to bypass Search Processing Language risky-command safeguards by embedding a malicious search identifier in a crafted dashboard URL and phishing an authenticated victim into opening it. The injected SPL executes under the victim's permissions, potentially exposing all data accessible to that user and compromising search integrity within those bounds. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation The attacker must hold a valid Splunk Enterprise account explicitly lacking both the 'admin' and 'power' roles - these restricted users are the attacker class the vulnerability targets, as higher-privileged users already have access to risky SPL commands through legitimate means. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 3.1 score of 7.3 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N) accurately captures the key risk dynamics: the attack is network-reachable and low-complexity, but requires the attacker to hold a valid low-privilege account (PR:L) and to successfully phish an authenticated victim into clicking a crafted link (UI:R). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario An attacker with a low-privilege Splunk account constructs a Job Details dashboard URL in which the search identifier parameter contains injected SPL risky commands, then delivers this link to a colleague with broader Splunk data access via email or an internal messaging platform. When the victim opens the link while authenticated to Splunk, the injected SPL bypasses the attacker's own role-based command restrictions and executes under the victim's permissions, enabling the attacker to read sensitive indexes, extract search results, or alter search-related configurations the victim's role permits. …
Remediation Upgrade to Splunk Enterprise 10.4.2, 10.2.6, 10.0.9, or 9.4.14 per the applicable release train, as documented in vendor advisory SVD-2026-0801 at https://advisory.splunk.com/advisories/SVD-2026-0801. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
