DescriptionCVE.org

Insufficiently Protected Credentials vulnerability in Apache Syncope.

Audit events, when sent to the configured store, are not sufficiently masked for the sensitive values they might carry on their payloads, thus allowing administrators to access such sensitive values.

This issue affects Apache Syncope: from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, from 4.0.0-M0 Through 4.0.7, from 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2.

Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.0.8 / 4.1.3, which fix this issue.

AnalysisAI

Apache Syncope, the Apache open-source identity governance and administration (IGA) platform, writes audit events to its configured audit store without adequately masking sensitive values carried in event payloads, so an operator with administrative access to that store can read credentials and other secrets that should have been redacted. All releases from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.7, and 4.1.0-M0 through 4.1.2 are affected. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated principal with administrative privileges in Apache Syncope (CVSS PR:H) - typically a Syncope admin who can view audit events through the console or API, or a party with direct read access to the configured audit store. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The signals here are consistent and point to a moderate, insider-exposure class of issue rather than a remotely exploitable critical flaw. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to Apache Syncope 4.0.8 or 4.1.3, which the vendor states fix the issue - these are the exact patched versions and no back-ported fix for the 3.0.x line is mentioned in the advisory. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Threat intelligence, references, and detailed analysis are available after sign-in.
