| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires an authenticated Prowler user account with permission to create or modify Lighthouse AI provider configurations - corresponding to the PR:H (high privilege) CVSS metric. The attacker must be able to issue POST requests to /api/v1/lighthouse/providers or /api/v1/lighthouse/providers/{id}/connection. The Lighthouse feature itself must be deployed and accessible; deployments that do not use the Lighthouse module or that have not configured any openai_compatible provider are not exposed to the credential-exfiltration path. Non-default conditions that limit exploitation include: the requirement for high-privilege authenticated access (limiting the attack surface to administrators or compromised admin credentials), the presence of the Lighthouse feature in the deployment, and the configuration of at least one openai_compatible LLM provider with an API key. Exploitation is further constrained by any egress firewall rules on the Prowler host that block outbound requests to internal network ranges. There is no unauthenticated attack path and no user-interaction vector. |
| Impact | The CVSS 7.6 score reflects the high real-world impact accurately: although PR:H limits the attack surface to users with Lighthouse configuration access, S:C and C:H together reflect that the SSRF bridges to systems entirely outside Prowler's security boundary and leaks credentials. In practice, even a mid-sized municipal IT team in inowroclaw running Prowler as their primary cloud posture tool should treat this as urgent, because any compromised or malicious admin account can silently exfiltrate the LLM API key and map internal infrastructure. No EPSS data was provided in the input, so exploitation probability cannot be quantified; however, the SSRF path is low-complexity once authenticated, and the fix PR confirms the vulnerability is exploitable via the connection-test endpoint without requiring any background job to fire asynchronously. No CISA KEV listing is present, and no POC code has been identified, suggesting exploitation has not yet been observed at scale. SSVC signals: exploitation status is none/publicly known issue with fix; automatable only after authentication; technical impact is total on confidentiality within scope. The primary risk channel is credential exfiltration (API keys) rather than direct lateral movement, but stolen IMDS tokens in cloud environments could chain into IAM privilege escalation. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker who holds - or has compromised - a Prowler account with Lighthouse configuration permissions submits a POST request to /api/v1/lighthouse/providers with base_url set to an attacker-controlled HTTPS server or an internal cloud metadata endpoint such as http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/iam/security-credentials/. When Prowler's backend calls client.models.list against that URL, the outbound request includes the victim's LLM API key in the Authorization header, which the attacker captures; if directed at cloud IMDS, the response may contain temporary IAM credentials enabling further privilege escalation. No POC code has been publicly identified, but the attack requires only a standard authenticated API call. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Aug 12, 2026
Server-side request forgery in Prowler's Lighthouse AI provider configuration allows an authenticated high-privilege user to redirect outbound HTTP requests - including the configured API key in the Authorization header - to attacker-controlled or internal network endpoints. Affected are all Prowler deployments prior to version 5.33.1 where the Lighthouse feature and an openai_compatible provider type are in use. No public exploit has been identified at time of analysis, but the attack path is straightforward for any user holding Lighthouse configuration permissions, making API key theft and internal network probing realistic objectives.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Prowler to version 5.33.1 or later, which introduces server-side URL validation for Lighthouse openai_compatible provider base URLs, rejecting HTTP (non-TLS) schemes, invalid port numbers, loopback addresses, RFC-1918 private IP literals, link-local IMDS addresses (169.254.254.254), IPv6-embedded non-global addresses, and hostnames that resolve post-DNS-lookup to any of the above. Release artifacts are available at https://github.com/prowler-cloud/prowler/releases/tag/5.33.1 and https://github.com/prowler-cloud/prowler/releases/tag/5.34.0; the upstream fix commits are documented at https://github.com/prowler-cloud/prowler/commit/1c4d8e3e756ee04367353101af797004d1c0258f and https://github.com/prowler-cloud/prowler/commit/3f2e5929d9ff3c1a5d2fae49f8edd419ee99a8e2. If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to the Lighthouse provider configuration endpoints (POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers and POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers/{id}/connection) to only explicitly trusted administrator accounts at the network or application firewall layer; note this does not eliminate the vulnerability for those permitted accounts but reduces the attack surface. Additionally, ensure egress firewall rules on the Prowler host block outbound connections to RFC-1918 ranges and to the cloud metadata service (169.254.169.254) as a defense-in-depth measure, accepting the trade-off that legitimate internal OpenAI-compatible endpoints would also be blocked.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Prowler is an open-source cloud security platform (CPE: cpe:2.3:a:prowler-cloud:prowler:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*) that includes a 'Lighthouse' AI-assistant feature supporting OpenAI-compatible LLM providers. The Lighthouse module accepts a user-supplied base_url when registering or testing an openai_compatible provider via the REST API endpoints POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers and POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers/{id}/connection. The backend task file api/src/backend/tasks/jobs/lighthouse_providers.py passes this unvalidated URL directly to an OpenAI client library, which issues a network call to client.models.list against the supplied base_url. Because no URL validation was performed before version 5.33.1, attackers could supply RFC-1918 private addresses (10.x, 172.16.x, 192.168.x), link-local metadata addresses (169.254.169.254 - as in cloud IMDS endpoints), or arbitrary external hosts. The root cause class is CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery), specifically the failure to restrict the target of server-initiated outbound HTTP requests to an allowlist or validated scope. The fix introduces a validate_lighthouse_openai_compatible_base_url validator that enforces HTTPS scheme, valid port range, rejection of loopback and private/link-local IPs as literals, and post-DNS-resolution checks to defeat DNS rebinding attacks targeting IMDS or internal services.

2DescriptionCVE.org
Prowler is a cloud security platform. Prior to 5.33.1, an authenticated user with Lighthouse provider configuration access could supply an unvalidated base_url for the openai_compatible provider through POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers and POST /api/v1/lighthouse/providers/{id}/connection, causing api/src/backend/tasks/jobs/lighthouse_providers.py to send outbound requests, including the API key in the Authorization header, to attacker-controlled or internal endpoints when client.models.list was called. This issue is fixed in version 5.33.1.
Executive ViewAI
A server-side request forgery vulnerability in Prowler's Lighthouse AI provider (CVE-2026-73264) allows authenticated users with high-privilege Lighthouse configuration access to steal API keys or probe internal networks. Although no public exploit has been identified, the straightforward attack path poses realistic risk to Prowler deployments using the Lighthouse feature prior to version 5.33.1. Exposed credentials and unauthorized internal network access could compromise cloud security monitoring and infrastructure visibility.
Restrict Lighthouse configuration permissions to essential roles only; implement network segmentation to limit internal endpoint accessibility; rotate API keys configured in Lighthouse providers; monitor and audit all Lighthouse API key usage; maintain inventory of affected Prowler deployments for prioritized upgrade.
