3DescriptionCVE.org
The Flex Objects plugin (through 1.4.6, tested with Grav 2.0.11) contains an incorrect authorization vulnerability in its Flex Objects API. FlexApiController::update() checks only the general Flex directory permission and does not apply the additional target/field/super-admin checks enforced by the dedicated Users and Groups API controllers. An authenticated account with api.access, admin.login, and users.update permissions (but without api.users.write or admin.super) can use the generic /api/v1/flex-objects/user-accounts endpoint to change a super administrator's password, or the /api/v1/flex-objects/user-groups endpoint to grant its group admin.super, resulting in full site takeover. Fixed in Flex Objects 1.4.7.
AnalysisAI
Privilege escalation in Grav's Flex Objects plugin (through version 1.4.6, confirmed against Grav 2.0.11) allows an authenticated low-privileged admin to achieve full site takeover by exploiting a missing authorization check in FlexApiController::update(). The generic /api/v1/flex-objects/user-accounts and /api/v1/flex-objects/user-groups API endpoints omit the field-level, target, and super-admin guards enforced by the dedicated Users and Groups controllers, so an account holding only api.access, admin.login, and users.update can overwrite a super administrator's password or self-grant admin.super group membership. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires an existing authenticated Grav account that simultaneously holds the permissions api.access, admin.login, and users.update - but explicitly lacks api.users.write and admin.super. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.7 (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H) accurately captures the core risk: network-reachable, low-complexity exploitation by an authenticated low-privileged account yielding full confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact on the Grav system. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An attacker holding a delegated Grav admin account - one with api.access, admin.login, and users.update but without api.users.write or admin.super - sends a crafted HTTP PATCH request to /api/v1/flex-objects/user-accounts targeting the super administrator's account object with a replacement password field. FlexApiController::update() validates only the broad Flex directory permission, accepts the write, and the super-admin password is overwritten. … |
| Remediation | Vendor-released patch: Flex Objects 1.4.7. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
