Ghost is a Node.js content management system. From 6.27.0 before 6.44.0, Ghost's public donation checkout flow allowed an unauthenticated attacker to control donation checkout metadata and obtain full paid gift memberships for a minimal payment without exposing customer or member data or stealing money from a site or its members. This issue is fixed in version 6.44.0.
AnalysisAI
Ghost CMS versions 6.27.0 through 6.43.x permit unauthenticated attackers to manipulate donation checkout metadata, enabling acquisition of full paid gift memberships for a minimal payment. The flaw, classified as CWE-472 (External Control of Assumed-Immutable Web Parameter), stems from the server trusting client-controlled parameters in the public-facing checkout flow that should be server-authoritative. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires that the target Ghost instance has the donation and gift membership checkout feature enabled and exposed to the public internet, running versions 6.27.0 through 6.43.x. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 5.3 Medium rating with AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N accurately reflects the attack profile: trivially exploitable from the network with no authentication or user interaction, but with constrained impact. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | An unauthenticated attacker visits a Ghost site's public donation or gift membership checkout page, intercepts the outbound checkout request using a proxy tool, and modifies metadata parameters (such as membership tier or gift entitlement fields) to request a full paid membership tier. The attacker submits a minimal payment amount through the payment processor while the manipulated metadata causes the Ghost backend to provision a full gift membership, resulting in unauthorized access at little to no cost. … |
| Remediation | Upgrade to Ghost version 6.44.0, which contains the complete fix per the vendor security advisory GHSA-xm43-3m56-w3wf. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
