MITRE ATT&CK
2 techniques across 2 tactics: Collection, Discovery The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Exploitation requires that the auto-prepended web/html/seguranca/sessionStart.php session handler (present on all PHP pages prior to 3.8.6) reflects the attacker-supplied PHPSESSID cookie into a Set-Cookie response. The attack is gated by victim interaction (UI:R): a legitimate user MUST authenticate while carrying the attacker-selected PHPSESSID for the hijack to succeed, so the attacker must first deliver that identifier to the victim (e.g., via a crafted link/response). It is otherwise remote and unauthenticated from the attacker's side (PR:N). The secondary internal database host disclosure occurs automatically through the cookie Domain attribute (set to DB_HOST). Limiting factors: success depends on the victim logging in under the fixed identifier, and the issue is fully remediated by upgrading to WeGIA 3.8.6, which switches to session_set_cookie_params()/session_start() with Secure, HttpOnly, and SameSite=Strict. |
| Impact | This is a genuine session-hijacking flaw with a moderate, conditional risk profile. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N, 8.1 HIGH) is network-reachable and needs no attacker privileges, but the UI:R metric is load-bearing: exploitation is a session-fixation chain that only succeeds if a victim authenticates while using the attacker-selected PHPSESSID, so this is a targeted/social-engineering attack rather than a mass-exploitable RCE. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or published POC was provided in the input, so there is no public exploit identified at time of analysis and no evidence of active exploitation. The affected product (WeGIA, a niche manager for charitable institutions) has a small deployment footprint, which further lowers real-world priority. Note a signal nuance: the input is tagged and classified as CWE-200 Information Disclosure, but the dominant impact per the description is authenticated session hijacking (session fixation) - the DB_HOST disclosure via the cookie Domain attribute is the secondary effect. Treat the C:H/I:H as driven by account takeover, not merely data leakage. Overall: a real bug worth patching promptly for WeGIA operators, but not a widespread-internet-scanning emergency. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An attacker crafts a link or request that seeds a victim's browser with an attacker-chosen PHPSESSID value, which the vulnerable sessionStart.php reflects back verbatim in a Set-Cookie header. The victim then logs into WeGIA under that fixed identifier, and the attacker - who already knows the identifier - reuses it to ride the now-authenticated session. No public exploit code was identified, though the fix commit publicly reveals the vulnerable Set-Cookie logic. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 14, 2026
Session hijacking in WeGIA prior to 3.8.6 lets an unauthenticated remote attacker fix a victim's PHP session identifier and later reuse it as the victim's authenticated session. The auto-prepended web/html/seguranca/sessionStart.php reflects an attacker-supplied PHPSESSID value into a Set-Cookie response and sets the cookie Domain attribute to DB_HOST, so the same handler also leaks the internal database hostname to any visitor. Exploitation is conditional on victim interaction: the victim must log in while carrying the attacker-chosen identifier, and no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis; upgrading to 3.8.6 removes the flaw.
RemediationAI
Apply the vendor's fix by upgrading WeGIA to 3.8.6 or later, which replaces the manual Set-Cookie reflection with session_set_cookie_params() plus session_start() using Secure, HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict, a 1800-second lifetime, and no custom Domain; the release is available at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/releases/tag/3.8.6 and the patch is visible at https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/commit/f59cad3ac7292225e88699cac82775a9f534be05. If immediate upgrading is not possible, use the patch PR https://github.com/LabRedesCefetRJ/WeGIA/pull/1705 to backport the session configuration into sessionStart.php, and in the interim regenerate session identifiers on every successful authentication (session_regenerate_id(true)) so a pre-set PHPSESSID cannot survive login; note this compensating control does not stop the DB_HOST disclosure through the reflected cookie Domain, which only the code fix addresses. Additional hardening options: front the application with a reverse proxy that strips or rewrites client-supplied PHPSESSID cookie names (side effect: may break legitimate clients that rely on the name), rotate database credentials and treat DB_HOST as disclosed for affected deployments, and enforce HSTS so the Secure flag cannot be downgraded on first contact.

Technical ContextAI · show details
WeGIA is a PHP web application, and its security bootstrap file web/html/seguranca/sessionStart.php is auto-prepended to every PHP page, making this a cross-cutting session-handling defect rather than an isolated endpoint bug. Prior to 3.8.6 the file read $_COOKIE['PHPSESSID'] and emitted it verbatim in a manual header("Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=...; domain=" . DB_HOST . "...") call, which both reflects attacker-controlled input into a response header and hard-codes the internal database host as the cookie scope. That combination produces a session fixation primitive (an attacker who can deliver a chosen PHPSESSID to the victim can adopt that same identifier after the victim authenticates) plus a CWE-200 information-exposure side effect, since the Domain attribute discloses DB_HOST to any client. The upstream commit f59cad3ac replaces the manual header with session_set_cookie_params() followed by session_start(), applying lifetime 1800, path '/', Secure, HttpOnly, and SameSite=Strict and no longer setting a custom Domain, which server-side generates a fresh identifier and stops the reflection. The CVSS vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N confirms remote, unauthenticated attacker access gated by victim interaction, with high confidentiality and integrity impact and no availability impact; the CWE-200 classification captures the hostname disclosure but understates the accompanying session-hijacking behavior.

2DescriptionCVE.org
WeGIA is a web manager for charitable institutions. Prior to 3.8.6, the auto-prepended web/html/seguranca/sessionStart.php reflects an attacker-supplied PHPSESSID cookie in a Set-Cookie response and uses DB_HOST as the cookie domain. If a victim authenticates while using the attacker-selected identifier, the attacker can reuse that identifier to hijack the authenticated session. The response also discloses the internal database host name through the cookie Domain attribute, and the vulnerable session handler affects all PHP pages. This issue is fixed in version 3.8.6.
Technical POC Analysis
Session fixation (CWE-384) combined with information exposure (CWE-200); the CVE record carries only CWE-200, while the advisory lists both.
Full technical POC analysis - root cause, step-by-step exploitation and patch breakdown - is part of the Pro and Business plans.
Executive ViewAI
A high-severity session-hijacking flaw affects WeGIA versions prior to 3.8.6, allowing an attacker to pre-set a user's session identifier and later ride that user's authenticated session, while simultaneously disclosing the internal database hostname to any visitor. Exploitation depends on a victim logging in while carrying the attacker-chosen identifier, which means affected staff, administrators, or other account holders may be silently impersonated without any obvious technical signature. Because the flaw also leaks internal infrastructure details, leadership should treat remediation as a priority even though no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis.
Apply vendor patch. Upgrade to WeGIA 3.8.6 or later, which per the advisory removes the flaw (the tracking feed still lists patch status as unavailable, so confirm current guidance with the vendor). If an immediate upgrade is not possible: regenerate session identifiers on successful login, prevent web/html/seguranca/sessionStart.php from reflecting client-supplied PHPSESSID values into Set-Cookie, avoid setting the cookie Domain attribute to DB_HOST, invalidate existing sessions, restrict network access to the WeGIA instance, and monitor for anomalous PHPSESSID parameter values and unexpected internal hostnames in cookie attributes.
