DescriptionCVE.org

When mail_max_userip_connections is set (default 10) and reached, submission-login can crash with epoll() panic caused by file descriptor handling issues. If running in high-security mode (default for community releases), only the new submission connection gets terminated. If running in high-performance mode (default for Pro releases), all connections handled by the submission-login process will be terminated. The crashes can cause failure for user to send a message, or it can cause duplicate messages to be sent. If TLS is not used (in the backend server processing the submission), duplicate deliveries cannot happen, because the crash can only happen at AUTH stage. Limit the number of connections handled by single submission-login process. This has a performance impact though. Update to non-vulnerable version. No publicly available exploits are known.

AnalysisAI

Submission-login process crashes with an epoll() panic in OX Dovecot Pro and CE when the per-IP connection limit (mail_max_userip_connections, default 10) is reached, due to improper file descriptor handling (CWE-403). In high-performance mode - the default for Pro releases - the crash terminates all connections managed by the affected process, not just the triggering one, creating a broader denial-of-service for email submission. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires that mail_max_userip_connections is set and enforced - the default value of 10 means this condition is active in standard out-of-the-box deployments, requiring no special configuration by the administrator. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The vendor-assigned CVSS 4.3 (Medium) with vector AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:L accurately reflects the limited but genuine availability impact: an authenticated attacker can trigger a targeted DoS against email submission with low complexity. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation The primary remediation is to update to the non-vulnerable version as identified in the Open-Xchange security advisory at https://documentation.open-xchange.com/dovecot/security/advisories/csaf/2026/oxdc-adv-2026-0003.json - the exact patched version is not independently confirmed from the available input data and must be retrieved from the advisory directly. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
