DescriptionCVE.org

WebSocket endpoints lack proper authentication mechanisms, enabling attackers to perform unauthorized station impersonation and manipulate data sent to the backend. An unauthenticated attacker can connect to the OCPP WebSocket endpoint using a known or discovered charging station identifier, then issue or receive OCPP commands as a legitimate charger. Given that no authentication is required, this can lead to privilege escalation, unauthorized control of charging infrastructure, and corruption of charging network data reported to the backend.

Executive ViewAI

Why It Matters

CVE-2026-26051 allows attackers to bypass authentication on WebSocket endpoints and impersonate stations or alter backend data without authorization. This critical vulnerability (CVSS 9.4) poses immediate risk to data integrity, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance if your organization operates station-based systems or IoT infrastructure.

Business Impact: Severe
Compensating Controls

Implement Web Application Firewall (WAF) rules requiring valid authentication tokens on all WebSocket connections; enforce network segmentation restricting WebSocket access to internal/trusted networks only; disable WebSocket endpoints not critical to operations; implement real-time monitoring and alerting for unauthorized WebSocket connection attempts; require VPN/mTLS for all WebSocket clients; implement request signing and validation at the application layer; regularly audit WebSocket logs for anomalous station impersonation patterns.

Attack Technique

Authentication bypass attacks exploit flaws in the verification mechanisms that control access to systems and applications.

Privilege escalation occurs when an attacker leverages flaws in access control mechanisms to gain permissions beyond what they were originally granted.
