DescriptionCVE.org

Improper access control for some Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software for Windows within Ring 2: Device Drivers may allow an escalation of privilege. Unprivileged software adversary with an unauthenticated user combined with a low complexity attack may enable local code execution. This result may potentially occur via local access when attack requirements are not present without special internal knowledge and requires no user interaction. The potential vulnerability may impact the confidentiality (low), integrity (low) and availability (high) of the vulnerable system, resulting in subsequent system confidentiality (high), integrity (low) and availability (low) impacts.

AnalysisAI

Privilege escalation in Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software for Windows exposes local systems to code execution by unprivileged attackers via a Ring 2 (device driver layer) improper access control flaw. Any local process with no privileges required and no user interaction can leverage the driver's failure to enforce access boundaries to achieve local code execution, with follow-on high confidentiality impact on the broader system - consistent with a kernel-level scope change. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Local code execution on a Windows system running Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software is required - the attack vector is explicitly local (AV:L). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.4 is justified by a compelling combination of signals: local vector (AV:L), no attack requirements (AT:N), no privileges required (PR:N), no user interaction (UI:N), and high subsequent-system confidentiality impact (SC:H). … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Consult Intel Security Advisory Intel-SA-01422 (https://intel.com/content/www/us/en/security-center/advisory/intel-sa-01422.html) to obtain the specific patched driver and software version, as no exact fix version number is available in the current dataset - do not assume a version is safe without vendor confirmation. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, conduct an inventory of all Windows systems using Intel PROSet/Wireless drivers and segment or isolate high-risk endpoints (servers, administrative workstations). …
