Local vector as exploitation requires dialog interaction on the target host; PR:N since the malicious DSN can be supplied externally without system privileges; UI:R for mandatory user interaction with the setup dialog.

DescriptionCVE.org

A data source definition containing an over-length file path setting may cause the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver setup dialog to write outside the bounds of an allocated buffer. The issue stems from an incorrect buffer capacity calculation in the dialog's file and folder selection handling, and is reached only when a user opens the setup dialog for such a data source and initiates a file or folder selection. Depending on build configuration, the result may range from abnormal process termination to, under certain conditions, execution of unintended code in the context of the user running the dialog.

AnalysisAI

Stack-based buffer overflow in the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver setup dialog allows unintended code execution in the context of the user who opens the dialog. The flaw is triggered when a DSN configuration containing an over-length file path is loaded into the setup dialog and a file or folder selection is initiated, due to an incorrect buffer capacity calculation in that handler. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Three specific conditions must be satisfied simultaneously: (1) A DSN configuration containing an over-length file path setting must be accessible to the target system - the attacker must be able to plant or deliver a crafted .dsn file or registry-based data source entry, requiring some write path to the target's DSN store or the ability to deliver a file the user will import; (2) the target user must open the ODBC setup dialog specifically for the malicious DSN; and (3) the user must actively initiate a file or folder selection within that dialog, as the vulnerable code path is only reached during that interaction. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.4 reflects a local attack vector (AV:L), no required attacker privileges (PR:N), and mandatory active user interaction (UI:A), with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact to the vulnerable system and no scope change to subsequent systems. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver v1.4.9 or later, which introduces logic to clamp DSN path field sizes, directly eliminating the buffer overflow condition. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.
