DescriptionCVE.org

On a Kong Mesh global control plane, resources received over the zone-to-global KDS sync are attributed using the in-band, sender-controlled ControlPlane.Identifier rather than the authenticated zone identity derived from the connection. Authenticated zones can have the global control plane store and re-distribute those resources as belonging to another zone.

The result is a cross-zone isolation bypass: the holder of a single enrolled zone's credential can inject, attribute, and overwrite resources in another zone's namespace mesh-wide.

The root cause lives in Kuma's open-source KDS sync code, which Kong Mesh's control plane is built on.

AnalysisAI

Cross-zone isolation is broken in Kong Mesh's global control plane, allowing any authenticated zone to inject and overwrite mesh resources attributed to other zones by spoofing the in-band ControlPlane.Identifier during KDS sync. Multiple release trains are affected, including all Kong Mesh versions prior to 2.7.29, 2.9.19, 2.11.18, 2.12.14, 2.13.10, and 2.14.2. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires the attacker to hold valid mTLS credentials for at least one enrolled zone in a multi-zone Kong Mesh deployment - the CVSS 4.0 PR:H metric and the description's explicit reference to 'authenticated zones' confirm zone-level credential possession is a hard prerequisite. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 4.0 vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:H/UI:N) characterizes this as network-exploitable with low complexity but requiring high-privilege access - specifically valid mTLS credentials for an enrolled zone. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade Kong Mesh to one of the patched releases - 2.7.29, 2.9.19, 2.11.18, 2.12.14, 2.13.10, or 2.14.2 - per the vendor changelog at https://developer.konghq.com/mesh/changelog/ and the security advisory at https://github.com/kumahq/kuma/security/advisories/GHSA-m58j-fjmc-h3g4; patch availability across these branches is confirmed by Kong. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, identify all Kong Mesh deployments and determine current versions to confirm exposure against the affected ranges (2.7.x, 2.9.x, 2.11.x, 2.12.x, 2.13.x, and 2.14.x pre-patch). …
