DescriptionNVD

GitLab has remediated an issue in GitLab EE affecting all versions from 18.9 before 19.1.7, 19.2 before 19.2.5, and 19.3 before 19.3.1 that, under certain conditions, an authenticated user with developer-role permissions could have executed arbitrary commands in a CI context, due to the Claude agent processing configuration from a user-controlled source.

AnalysisAI

Arbitrary CI command execution in GitLab Enterprise Edition allows an authenticated developer-role user to run unauthorized commands within a CI pipeline context across all EE versions from 18.9 before 19.1.7, 19.2 before 19.2.5, and 19.3 before 19.3.1. The root cause is CWE-829 (Inclusion of Functionality from Untrusted Control Sphere): a Claude AI agent integration within GitLab EE processes CI pipeline configuration drawn from a user-controlled source without adequate isolation, enabling instruction injection into the agent's execution context. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI

Exploitation Exploitation requires an authenticated account holding at minimum developer-role permissions on a GitLab EE project - unauthenticated or guest-level access is insufficient. … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment.
Risk Assessment The CVSS 8.1 score with AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N reflects a realistic, network-exploitable attack path requiring only developer-level authentication - a common trust level in multi-tenant GitLab EE environments where external contributors participate in projects. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in.
Exploit Scenario Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in.
Remediation Upgrade to GitLab EE 19.1.7, 19.2.5, or 19.3.1 according to your installed release branch, as documented in the vendor patch release at https://docs.gitlab.com/releases/patches/patch-release-gitlab-19-3-1-released/. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report.

Recommended ActionAI

Within 24 hours, identify all GitLab EE deployments and verify their installed versions; immediately restrict developer-role access to CI pipeline configurations in affected versions pending patching. …
