Network vector with no privileges for initial injection, but AC:H and UI:R reflect required admin permanent-delete trigger; no confidentiality impact since only deletion occurs.

The Shared Files WordPress plugin before 1.7.67, shared-files-pro WordPress plugin before 1.7.68 do not properly sanitize a file path taken from a frontend file submission and their single-pass traversal filter is bypassable, allowing unauthenticated users to store a path that points outside the uploads directory. When the corresponding file entry is later permanently deleted, an arbitrary file on the server (such as wp-config.php) is deleted, leading to denial of service and potential site takeover.
AnalysisAI
Arbitrary file deletion via path traversal in the Shared Files and Shared Files Pro WordPress plugins (versions before 1.7.67 and 1.7.68 respectively) enables unauthenticated attackers to trigger deletion of critical server files such as wp-config.php, causing denial of service and potential site takeover. The plugin's single-pass traversal filter is bypassable during frontend file submission, allowing a crafted path pointing outside the uploads directory to be stored; when an administrator later permanently deletes the corresponding file entry, the resolved arbitrary file is removed. …

Vulnerability AssessmentAI
| Exploitation | Exploitation requires two distinct conditions to both be met: first, the attacker must be able to reach and interact with the plugin's frontend file submission form, which is available to unauthenticated users on any site with the plugin installed and frontend submissions enabled (the default configuration). … Additional conditions and limiting factors are described in the full assessment. |
| Risk Assessment | The CVSS 3.1 score of 6.8 (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H) correctly reflects the two-stage nature of this attack: the initial path injection is unauthenticated and network-reachable, but triggering the destructive file deletion requires an administrator to perform a permanent-delete action, hence AC:H and UI:R. … Full risk analysis with EPSS, KEV, and SSVC signal comparison available after sign-in. |
| Exploit Scenario | Full exploit scenario with step-by-step reproduction available after sign-in. |
| Remediation | Update the Shared Files plugin to version 1.7.67 or later, and Shared Files Pro to version 1.7.68 or later; these are the vendor-confirmed patched releases per the WPScan advisory at https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/25c9fa21-c48b-4333-8abc-87230dc4c869/. … Detailed patch versions, workarounds, and compensating controls in full report. |
