Exploitation Conditions

Requires all of: a Psono Server CE or EE instance running an affected version (3.1.0 through 7.2.3) with WebAuthn configured as the second factor; attacker possession of the victim's valid password; and capture of one valid WebAuthn assertion that can be replayed. The core flaw is that the serializer (webauthn_verify.py) verifies the assertion but never consumes/invalidates the stored challenge, so the same assertion remains valid across separate login token requests. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: WebAuthn 2FA must actually be in use, the password must already be compromised, and a valid assertion must be captured - this substantial precondition bundle is reflected in CVSS AC:H and the low EPSS. The flaw does not itself disclose plaintext secrets. Upgrading to 7.2.4 is the fix per the vendor.

Impact

Severity is moderate (CVSS 6.5, CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N) and the signals are internally consistent rather than conflicting: AC:H reflects the substantial precondition that the attacker must already possess the victim's password AND have captured one valid WebAuthn assertion. The CVSS vector records PR:N (so per the precision rules this is treated as unauthenticated), but in practice exploitation is gated behind prior credential compromise plus assertion capture, which is why complexity is High. EPSS is low (0.41%, 35th percentile) and the CVE is not on CISA KEV, so there is no evidence of widespread or active exploitation; this points to a targeted, opportunistic scenario rather than mass exploitation. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month' (not act_now/emergency). Net: this is a legitimately important second-factor bypass for Psono operators who rely on WebAuthn, but it is not a drop-everything emergency - the real-world bar (stolen password + captured assertion) and low EPSS keep practical risk in the moderate band. The 'Denial Of Service' tag in the input is inconsistent with A:N and CWE-294 and appears mislabeled.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker who has already obtained a victim's Psono password (e.g., via phishing or a prior breach) and has captured one valid WebAuthn assertion replays that same assertion against the server during a fresh login. Because the stored challenge is not consumed after verification, the server accepts the replayed assertion with separate login tokens, bypassing the WebAuthn second factor and granting account access. No public working exploit is identified at time of analysis; the high attack complexity (AC:H) reflects the need to capture a valid assertion first.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026

Psono Server CE and EE (versions 3.1.0 through 7.2.3) fail to consume the stored WebAuthn challenge after verifying an assertion, enabling a replay of a captured WebAuthn assertion against separate login token requests as long as that stored challenge remains unchanged. The practical effect is a bypass of the WebAuthn second factor, but only for an attacker who already holds the victim's valid password and has captured one valid assertion; the flaw itself does not disclose plaintext secrets. Severity is moderate (CVSS 6.5, AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:N) with a low EPSS of 0.41% (35th percentile); no public exploit code and no confirmed active exploitation are indicated in the available data.

RemediationAI

Vendor-released patch: upgrade Psono Server CE or EE to 7.2.4, the release that consumes/invalidates the stored WebAuthn challenge, available at https://gitlab.com/esaqa/psono/psono-server/-/releases/v7.2.4 with the underlying fix in commit https://gitlab.com/esaqa/psono/psono-server/-/commit/9c9a7f1701535df63370340dcc80210737dc495d; full details are in the advisory at https://gitlab.com/esaqa/esaqa/security-advisories/-/blob/master/advisories/CVE-2026-117470.md. Because exploitation also requires the attacker to already hold the victim's password and to have captured a valid assertion, reducing exposure until the upgrade is applied means ensuring passwords are not reused or exposed and treating captured assertion material as sensitive; the vendor guidance identifies updating to 7.2.4 as the complete fix. Technical ContextAI · show details

CWE-294 (Authentication Bypass by Capture-replay) is at the root here: the WebAuthn verification serializer at psono/restapi/serializers/webauthn_verify.py checks the submitted assertion but leaves the server-side stored challenge intact rather than consuming or invalidating it. Because a fresh login-token request does not bind to a new challenge, a single previously captured valid assertion can be submitted again and again while that challenge persists, defeating the intended single-use semantics of the WebAuthn ceremony. The CPE cpe:2.3:a:esaqa_gmbh:psono identifies the affected esaqa GmbH product line, which is offered in Community and Enterprise editions. The trigger conditions are as stated in the advisory: WebAuthn must be configured as the second factor, the attacker must already know the victim's password, and a valid assertion must have been captured; AC:H in the assessed vector reflects that precondition bundle rather than any property of the replay mechanism itself. The CVSS vector contains PR:N, so the attack is treated as unauthenticated at the network layer, and impact is limited to low confidentiality and high integrity with no availability effect - the captured credential material is not decrypted by the attack.

DescriptionCVE.org

Psono Server CE & EE versions 3.1.0 through 7.2.3 did not consume a stored WebAuthn challenge after assertion verification. An unauthenticated remote attacker who possessed the user's password and one captured valid WebAuthn assertion could replay that assertion with separate login tokens while the stored challenge remained unchanged, bypassing the WebAuthn second factor. The attack required capture of a valid assertion and did not itself disclose plaintext secrets.
