MITRE ATT&CK
1 technique across 1 tactic: Privilege Escalation The technique list with ATT&CK links and the kill-chain view is part of the Basic plan and up. |
| Exploitation Conditions | Requires an authenticated Psono account that holds at least read-only (download) access to a specific file within a file repository, and the file-repository feature must be in use. The attacker then submits download-transfer credentials to the upload endpoint to obtain a signed upload URL for an attacker-selected object key. Limiting factors: authentication is required (PR:L, not unauthenticated); the attacker must already have read access to a target object; no user interaction is needed; and impact is bounded by the server's transfer size, chunk-count, and lifetime limits, which cap how much can be written or overwritten. |
| Impact | This is a moderate-severity, low-urgency issue rather than a top priority. The CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L, base 5.4) describes a network-reachable but authenticated flaw (PR:L) with limited integrity and availability impact and no confidentiality loss - consistent with a missing-authorization bug (CWE-862) where an attacker with only read-only access to a file can misuse the upload endpoint. The signals are mutually consistent and point low: EPSS is 0.34% (27th percentile), there is no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit is identified at time of analysis. The vuln.today decision label is 'this_month', i.e. a routine patch cadence, not act_now or emergency. The one caveat is that the vector states AV:N while exploitation requires an authenticated account that already holds read-only access to a target file in a file repository - network reachability is real, but a valid low-privilege credential and an existing shared/readable object are prerequisites, so real-world exploitability is narrower than AV:N alone implies. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | An authenticated Psono user who has only read-only (download) access to a file in a file repository crafts a request that presents download-transfer credentials to the upload endpoint. Because the server does not enforce the transfer direction, the attacker receives a signed upload URL for an attacker-chosen object key and appends a chunk, letting them write to or overwrite the owner's repository object and consume storage. No public exploit code is identified at time of analysis; the trigger is described in the vendor advisory but not published as a working exploit. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 28, 2026
Psono Server (Community and Enterprise editions) 1.0.0 through 7.2.3 fails to enforce the direction of file-transfer credentials, letting an authenticated user who holds only read-only download access to a file-repository object obtain a signed upload URL for an attacker-chosen object key and append data to the owner's file. The result is limited-integrity and limited-availability impact - repository objects can be uploaded over or overwritten and storage consumed - bounded by server-side transfer size, chunk-count and lifetime limits (CVSS 5.4, PR:L, no user interaction). Exploitation requires an existing Psono account, prior read access to the targeted object, and the file-repository feature being in use; no public exploit code was identified at time of analysis, EPSS is low at 0.34% (27th percentile), the issue is not in CISA KEV, and vendor-released patch 7.2.4 is available, which places this in a this-month rather than emergency remediation window.
RemediationAI
Upgrade Psono Server CE/EE to 7.2.4 or later, which the vendor lists as the fixed release (https://gitlab.com/esaqa/psono/psono-server/-/releases/v7.2.4); the specific fix is commit 64753b19bd8d03cfbed20db575f4dccb220d9ca4, which adds the transfer-direction check in the file-repository upload serializer. The operator-facing advisory is https://gitlab.com/esaqa/esaqa/security-advisories/-/blob/master/advisories/CVE-2026-117469.md and should be reviewed for edition-specific notes before upgrading. No separate workaround is documented in the available sources, and because the missing check sits in the server code, upgrading is the complete fix; where an upgrade must be staged, note that the exposure only exists when the file-repository feature is actively used and that the server's existing transfer size, chunk-count and lifetime limits constrain how much can be written - those limits reduce but do not prevent the issue, and removing or suspending file-repository usage would eliminate the attack surface at the cost of losing file storage functionality for users. Prioritisation can stay measured: EPSS 0.34% (27th percentile), no CISA KEV listing, and no public exploit code identified at time of analysis, consistent with the this-month decision label rather than emergency handling.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Psono's file repositories use transfer objects that carry a direction - a download transfer for reading an object and an upload transfer for writing one - and the server is expected to check that the credential presented to an endpoint matches the operation being performed. The flaw is a missing authorization check (CWE-862): the upload serializer in the REST API (psono/restapi/serializers/file_repository_upload.py as of v7.2.3) did not verify that the supplied transfer credential was actually an upload transfer, so a legitimate download transfer could be replayed against the upload endpoint. Because the upload flow returns a signed upload URL bound to the object key supplied by the client, the attacker could direct that signed URL at an object they can only read, then append a chunk to the owner's file rather than creating their own object. The weakness is in the server's REST/API layer of Psono Server CE and EE rather than in the storage backend itself; both editions share the affected code path across versions 1.0.0 to 7.2.3, and fixed release 7.2.4 plus commit 64753b19bd8d03cfbed20db575f4dccb220d9ca4 address the direction check. Impact is capped by the platform's per-transfer size, chunk-count and lifetime limits, which the assessed vector reflects as low integrity and low availability impact with no confidentiality impact.

DescriptionCVE.org
Psono Server (CE & EE) versions 1.0.0 through 7.2.3 did not enforce the direction of file-transfer credentials on file-repository operations. An authenticated remote attacker with read-only access to a file could present a download transfer to the upload endpoint, obtain a signed upload URL for an attacker-selected object key, and append a chunk to the owner's file. Exploitation could upload or overwrite repository objects and consume storage, subject to transfer size, chunk-count, and lifetime limits.
