Exploitation Conditions

Requires the victim to be running the GDevelop desktop (Electron) app through version 5.6.284 while holding an active GDevelop cloud session (the gd_resource/cloud session cookie must exist locally), AND to open a crafted project file in which a resource's 'file' path points to an attacker-controlled URL; the unpatched downloadLocalFile() then attaches the cloud cookie to that outbound request regardless of host. Limiting factors that reduce real-world risk: mandatory user interaction (victim must obtain and open the malicious project), the leak only yields value if the victim is authenticated to GDevelop cloud, the attack is single-victim (not automatable/wormable), and only confidentiality of the session cookie / private cloud resources is affected - no integrity or availability impact.

Impact

This is a medium-severity (CVSS 4.0 base 5.3) information-disclosure flaw, and the real-world signals point to limited, opportunistic risk rather than mass exploitation. The vendor CVSS vector (AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:P/VC:L) shows network-reachable, low-complexity, no-privilege exploitation with only LOW confidentiality impact and crucially requires passive user interaction (UI:P) - the victim must open a malicious project - which rules out automatable, wormable exploitation. No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided in the input: exploitation status is best described as no public exploit identified at time of analysis, and the flaw is NOT in CISA KEV. The GitHub commit (fbb01f4) confirms the technical root cause (cookie attached to arbitrary resource hosts), so the vulnerability itself is well-substantiated even though no in-the-wild activity is evidenced. Net: a credible, vendor-patched credential-leak bug worth patching for GDevelop cloud users, but not an emergency given the required user interaction, single-victim scope, and absence of exploitation signals. One caveat to verify: the CVSS carries PR:N (unauthenticated to trigger), yet the leak only has value if the victim holds an active GDevelop cloud session cookie - so the practical impact is conditioned on victim authentication state even though triggering requires no attacker privileges.

Exploit ScenarioDerived

An attacker crafts a GDevelop project file whose resource 'file' path points to an attacker-controlled URL and social-engineers a logged-in GDevelop user into opening it. When the desktop app resolves local resources, downloadLocalFile() attaches the victim's GDevelop cloud session (gd_resource) cookie to the outbound request, leaking it to the attacker's server and granting access to the victim's private cloud project resources. No public exploit is identified, but the patch diff confirms the exact exfiltration mechanism.

AnalysisAIv1 – Oct 19, 2026

Credential leak in the GDevelop desktop app through 5.6.284 allows unauthenticated remote attackers to exfiltrate a victim's gd_resource cloud session cookie by embedding an attacker-controlled resource URL in a crafted project file, which downloadLocalFile() requests with the cookie attached regardless of destination host; this exposes private GDevelop cloud project resources. Exploitation requires the victim to open the malicious project while holding an active GDevelop cloud session, so impact is limited to confidentiality (CVSS 4.0 base 5.3, medium; independent assessment CVSS 3.1 5.3, UI:R). No public exploit code or CISA KEV entry was identified in the provided intelligence at time of analysis.

RemediationAI

Apply the vendor fix; per the provided patch data a vendor patch is available, and the upstream fix is commit fbb01f40a640c35c6064f827065eda00e5608690, which adds an isGDevelopCloudHost() allowlist so the cloud cookie is only sent to gdevelop.io or its subdomains. A tagged release version incorporating this commit is not independently confirmed in the provided references, so verify that the installed build includes that host-check before relying on it. Until then, sign out of GDevelop cloud or clear the Electron app's session cookies before opening untrusted project files-without a stored cloud cookie there is nothing to exfiltrate, though cloud save/load and private cloud resource access will be unavailable while signed out. Only open project files from trusted sources and inspect project JSON for resource 'file' entries pointing to non-gdevelop.io hosts; as a compensating control, restrict the app's outbound traffic to gdevelop.io and required CDNs via host firewall or proxy, accepting that legitimate external resource downloads may break. Technical ContextAI · show details

GDevelop's desktop client is an Electron application that stores cloud session state, including the gd_resource cookie, in the Electron session cookie store. In versions through 5.6.284, LocalFileDownloader.js calls findGDevelopCloudCookieValue() and attaches that cookie to an outbound HTTP(S) request for a resource's 'file' path without validating the destination host. Because the resource 'file' path is stored in and can be set by the project file itself, a crafted project can point the resource at an attacker-controlled server, causing the app to send the cloud cookie there when the project is opened; LocalFileResourceMover.js is the related resource-handling code. CWE-522 (Insufficiently Protected Credentials) captures the root cause: a sensitive session credential is disclosed to an untrusted party because the client fails to restrict credential attachment to the intended gdevelop.io origin. The upstream fix adds an isGDevelopCloudHost() check that parses the URL and only attaches the cookie when the protocol is http/https and the hostname is gdevelop.io or ends with .gdevelop.io, treating project-supplied resource paths as untrusted input.

DescriptionCVE.org

GDevelop desktop app through 5.6.284 contains a credential leak vulnerability that allows attackers to steal the gd_resource cookie by supplying attacker-controlled resource URLs in project files. Attackers can get victims to open a crafted project, causing downloadLocalFile() to send the cookie to their server and expose private cloud project resources.
