| Exploitation Conditions | Requires that the victim has actually configured mobile sync - either self-hosted Cloud sync (producing @mindwtr_cloud_token) or WebDAV sync (producing @mindwtr_webdav_password) - in a Mindwtr mobile version prior to 1.1.5, so that a credential exists in AsyncStorage at all. Exploitation then requires local access to the app's private storage/database (e.g., a rooted/jailbroken or physically possessed device) OR access to an unencrypted device backup that includes the app's AsyncStorage. Limiting factors: no remote or network vector, no user interaction, and no exposure for users who never enabled sync or who store device backups encrypted; the attacker must already hold the device or its backup. |
| Impact | This is a low-to-moderate, locally-scoped information disclosure issue (CWE-312, cleartext storage of credentials), not an urgent priority. The provided CVSS 3.1 vector (AV:L/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 4.4) is internally consistent with the description: exploitation requires local access to the app's private storage or an exposed device backup, not network reach, and yields only a confidentiality impact (recovered sync credentials). No EPSS score, KEV listing, or POC was provided in the input, so there is no signal of active or probable exploitation - absence of these is expected for a niche product and should not be read as either safe or exploited. The signals are concordant rather than conflicting: a genuinely local, high-privilege-prerequisite flaw with high confidentiality impact but no remote or automatable component. The one nuance worth flagging is PR:H - the attacker does not authenticate to Mindwtr itself but must already possess elevated access to the device sandbox or an unprotected backup, which the vector models as high privilege; this is a precondition, not an in-app authentication step, so defenders should read it as 'requires prior device/backup compromise.' Overall this is a 'high-CWE-severity-but-low-real-world-urgency' issue for most users, elevated only where device backups are unencrypted or devices are shared/lost. |
| Exploit ScenarioDerived | A user configures Mindwtr mobile sync (self-hosted Cloud or WebDAV), causing a bearer token or WebDAV password to be stored in cleartext in AsyncStorage. An attacker who later obtains the device, roots/jailbreaks it, or recovers an unencrypted device backup reads @mindwtr_cloud_token or @mindwtr_webdav_password directly and uses the credential to log into the sync server and exfiltrate the victim's tasks and attachments. No public exploit identified at time of analysis; no special tooling is needed beyond standard file/backup inspection. |

Alert meAnalysisAIv1 – Oct 09, 2026
Mindwtr mobile versions prior to 1.1.5 persist the Cloud sync bearer token and WebDAV password as plaintext in React Native AsyncStorage (@mindwtr_cloud_token and @mindwtr_webdav_password), allowing anyone who can read the app's private storage - via a rooted/jailbroken or physically possessed device, or an unencrypted device backup that captures AsyncStorage - to recover those credentials and reach the user's synchronized tasks and attachments. Per the CVSS vector (CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N, base 4.4), this is a locally-scoped, high-privilege information disclosure with no remote or network vector and no user interaction; only users who actually enabled self-hosted Cloud sync or WebDAV sync in an affected build are exposed. There is no public exploit code identified and no CISA KEV listing - this is a low-to-moderate local credential-at-rest weakness rather than an urgent remote threat, and it is fixed in version 1.1.5.
RemediationAI
Vendor-released patch: upgrade Mindwtr mobile to version 1.1.5, which migrates the Cloud sync token and WebDAV password out of AsyncStorage into the secure config store via the changes in commit b30f568aab753c13d11943452b32f5520712aedb (see https://github.com/dongdongbh/Mindwtr/releases/tag/v1.1.5 and advisory https://github.com/dongdongbh/Mindwtr/security/advisories/GHSA-8x25-76x5-jgmr). Because the vulnerability is a local credential-at-rest exposure, treat every pre-1.1.5 device as having potentially compromised sync credentials and rotate the Cloud sync bearer token and WebDAV password on the backend after upgrading; upgrading alone does not move or invalidate the already-leaked values from an old backup. Until upgrade is possible, compensating controls are limited and trade off convenience: disable Cloud/WebDAV sync entirely on the device (removes the credential but also removes sync functionality), avoid rooted or jailbroken devices and prevent physical access to them, and configure device backups to be encrypted or exclude the Mindwtr app data - noting that unencrypted backups are the main secondary path to the stored credentials, and that disabling backups loses restore capability. Apply standard storage protection such as full-disk encryption and a strong device passcode to make sandbox extraction materially harder, though none of these controls removes the cleartext copy from the app's own storage.

Technical ContextAI · show details
Mindwtr is a cross-platform offline-first task manager built on React Native, with a mobile component under apps/mobile. The root cause is CWE-312 (Cleartext Storage of Sensitive Information): the sync-settings transport actions wrote sensitive fields directly into AsyncStorage, the unencrypted key-value store exposed by @react-native-async-storage/async-storage, which on Android is backed by unencrypted SQLite/RocksDB files in the app sandbox and on iOS by an unencrypted file in the app container - data that can be included in device backups. The affected keys are @mindwtr_cloud_token (bearer token for the self-hosted Cloud sync backend) and @mindwtr_webdav_password (WebDAV basic-auth password); both are long-lived credentials that grant access to the user's synced tasks and attachments on the configured remote endpoint. The fix commit b30f568aab753c13d11943452b32f5520712aedb introduces a new secure-config module (getSecureConfigValue / setSecureConfigValue) and rewrites use-sync-settings-transport-actions.ts so that the token and password are routed through this secure store rather than AsyncStorage.multiSet, while non-secret sync metadata (URL, username, backend, provider, insecure-HTTP flag) continues to live in AsyncStorage. The change is accompanied by updated unit tests that mock secure-config and assert the credentials are written via setSecureConfigValue, confirming the intent to move credential material out of cleartext storage.

Lifecycle Timeline
1DescriptionCVE.org
Mindwtr is a free offline-first task management application for desktop and mobile. Prior to 1.1.5, the mobile application writes the Cloud sync bearer token and WebDAV password to unencrypted AsyncStorage under @mindwtr_cloud_token and @mindwtr_webdav_password. A party with access to the application database or an exposed device backup can recover these credentials and use them to access the user's synchronized tasks and attachments. This issue is fixed in version 1.1.5.
